Abstract

WhatsApp is a communication medium that can be used using words or voice by simply pressing a specific key. Such a thing facilitates us in exchanging information. The purpose of research is to know how effective the use of WhatsApp as a medium of communication in dailysocial among students of Department of Communication and Engineering, especially Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Civil and Industrial Engineering Force 2016 and 2017 of Mercu Buana University. The concept approach used in this research is using uses and gratification theory that is what the audience is doing in the media, namely using media for the restoration of its needs. This research is quantitative, with the type of descriptive research. The method used is a survey of 90 WhatsApp users among students of the Communication Science Department of Communication and Technical sciences, especially Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Civil and Industrial Engineering Force 2016 and 2017. The results showed the effectiveness of online communication through WhatsApp in dailysocial of 13,041 which means it is effectively used in dailysocial among students of Communication science Department of Communication and Technical sciences, especially Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Civil and Industrial Engineering Force 2016 and 2017. Keyword : Communication Effectiveness, WhatsApp, Dailysocial, Student College WhatsApp merupakan media komunikasi yang dapat digunakan dengan menggunakan kata-kata maupun suara dengan hanya menekan tombol tertentu. Hal seperti itu memudahkan kita dalam bertukar informasi. Tujuan penelitian yaitu untuk mengetahui seberapa efektifnya penggunaan WhatsApp sebagai media komunikasi dalam dailysocial di kalangan mahasiswa Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi dan Teknik khususnya Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Teknik Sipil dan Industri Angkatan 2016 dan 2017 Universitas Mercu Buana. Pendekatan konsep yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu menggunakan teori uses and gratification yang mempersoalkan apa yang dilakukan khalayak pada media, yakni menggunakan media untuk pemuasan kebutuhannya. Penelitian yang dilakukan ini adalah kuantitatif, dengan tipe penelitian deskriptif. Metode yang digunakan adalah survey 90 pengguna WhatsApp dikalangan Mahasiswa Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi Ilmu Komunikasi dan Teknik khususnya Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Teknik Sipil dan Industri Angkatan 2016 dan 2017 Universitas Mercu Buana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya efektifitas komunikasi online melalui WhatsApp dalam dailysocial sebesar 13.041 yang artinya efektif digunakan dalam dailysocial dikalangan Mahasiswa Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi Ilmu Komunikasi dan Teknik khususnya Prodi Broacasting, Public Relations, Teknik Sipil dan Industri Angkatan 2016 dan 2017 Universitas Mercu Buana.
