Abstract

The development of technology in the field of communication is very felt among the community, especially the students of Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta who often use WhatsApp as a communication media. Managing the content of messages through WhatsApp media itself is an important thing that must be considered by public relations students of Mercu Buana University Jakarta in communicating interpersonal media to minimize the occurrence of misunderstandings. This research refers to several previous studies related to the management of message content. With the aim to know the management of message content on WhatsApp media conducted by Public Relations students of Mercu Buana University Jakarta in interpersonal media communication. This research uses qualitative research method and uses constructivism paradigm. The data collection was obtained from in-depth interviews with resource persons, namely public relations students of Mercu Buana University Jakarta who often become class chairmen ora dmin and activist students in whatsapp group of courses. The results showed that the media selected by Public Relations students of Mercu Buana University Jakarta in managing the content of messages is through whatsapp media because the features offered by whatsapp social media are quite interesting and facilitate interpersonal media communication to run well. The features are often used in managing the content of messages such as punctuation, emoticons / emoji, voice notes, video calls, and direct calls. It also points to 3 main factors in the message, and cultural tradition in communicating with lecturers and other students. The conclusion of this study that the management of whatsapp media message content provides benefits in interpersonal media communication and encourages the occurrence of fast, precise communication, and able to minimize obstacles of distance and time, among the members of the whatsapp group thanks to the help of whatsapp media. Keywords : Message Content, Utilization of WhatsApp Media, Interpersonal Communication, Tradisi Sosiokultural Perkembangan teknologi dalam bidang komunikasi sangat terasa dikalangan masyarakat khususnya para mahasiswi Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta yang kerap menggunakan WhatsApp sebagai media komunikasi. Melakukan pengelolaan isi pesan melalui media WhatsApp sendiri adalah hal penting yang harus diperhatikan oleh mahasiswi Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta dalam berkomunikasi interpersonal bermedia untuk meminimalisir terjadinya kesalah pahaman. Penelitian ini merujuk pada beberapa penelitian terdahulu yang berkaitan dengan pengelolaan isi pesan. Dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengelolaan isi pesan pada media WhatsApp yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswi Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta dalam berkomunikasi interpersonal bermedia Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dari hasil wawancara mendalam dengan para narasumber yaitu mahasiswi public relations universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta yang kerap menjadi ketua kelas atau admin dan mahasiswi aktiv dalam group whatsapp mata kuliah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media yang dipilih mahasiswi Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta dalam mengelolah isi pesan adalah melalui media whatsapp karena fitur yang ditawarkan media sosial Whatsapp cukup menarik dan memudahkan komunikasi interpersonal bermedia berjalan dengan baik. Adapun fitur yang kerap digunakan dalam mengelolah isi pesan seperti tanda baca, emoticon/emoji, voice note, video call, dan direct call. Selain itu juga mengarah pada 3 faktor utama dalam pesan dan menganut tradisi sosikultural dalam berkomunikasi dengan dosen maupun mahasiswa lainnya. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini bahwa pengelolaan isi pesan media whatsapp memberi manfaat dalam berkomunikasi interpersonal bermedia dan mendorong terjadinya komunikasi yang cepat, tepat, dan mampu meminimalisir hambatan-hambatan jarak dan waktu, diantara para anggota group whatsapp tersebut berkat bantuan dari media Whatsapp Kata Kunci : Isi Pesan, Pemanfaatan Media WhatsApp, Komunikasi Interpersonal, Tradisi Sosikultural
