Abstract

This study aims to determine the pattern of interpersonal communication that occurs between students of the University of Mercu Buana through WhatsApp media. Interpersonal communication is seen based on several aspects of interpersonal communication elements according to (Joseph A DeVito) namely (1) source-receiver (2) encoding-decoding (3) message (4) media (5) noise (6) context (7) Feedback (8 ) ethics, and also seen from the characteristics of interpersonal communication (1) openness (2) Empathy (3) Similarity (Support (5) Positive. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The method used in this research is phenomenological methods involving subjects more in-depth research and a thorough examination of individual behavior by conducting in-depth interviews For the process of data collection carried out by interviewing informants.The results showed that interpersonal communication carried out through whatsapp media has the same value as direct communication, and elements and characteristics the pattern of interpersonal communication is still there even though it is done through whatsapp media. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Whatsapp Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola komunikasi antarpersonal yang terjadi antara mahasiswa Universitas Mercu Buana melalui media whatsapp. Komunikasi antarpersonal dilihat berdasarkan beberapa aspek elemen komunikasi antarpersonal menurut (Joseph A DeVito) yaitu (1) source-receiver (2) encodingdecoding (3) message (4) media (5) noise (6) context (7) Feedback (8) etichs, dan juga dilihat dari ciri komunikasi antarpersonal (1) keterbukaan (2) Empati (3) Kesamaan (Dukungan (5) Positif.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode fenomenologi yang melibatkan subyek penelitian lebih mendalam dan pemeriksaan menyeluruh terhadap perilaku individu dengan melakukan wawancara mendalam. Untuk proses pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara kepada narasumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi antarpersonal yang dilakukan melalui media whatsapp memiliki nilai yang sama dengan komunikasi secara langsung, dan elemen serta ciri ciri yang ada pada PROSES KOMUNIKASI ANTARPERSONAL tetap ada sekalipun dilakukan melalui media whatsapp. Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Antarpersonal, Whatsapp
