Abstract
This study discusses the self-disclosure patterns of migrant students in Jakarta toward their parents through WhatsApp as a communication medium. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze how migrant students disclose personal information to their parents using WhatsApp, based on the Johari Window theory, focusing on the Open Area and Hidden Area. This research uses constructivist paradigm with a case study method and with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 migrant students who live in Jakarta and actively communicate with their parents via WhatsApp. The results show that WhatsApp is chosen because it is practical, easy to use, and flexible, allowing routine communication through text messages and calls. The frequency and intensity of communication vary among informants, ranging from daily communication to situational communication based on needs. The selfdisclosure pattern is selective and contextual. In the Open Area, students tend to share information that is considered safe and appropriate for parents to know, as an effort to maintain emotional closeness, strengthen relationships, and provide reassurance to parents. Conversely, in the Hidden Area, the informants choose not to share information they consider sensitive. They do this to protect their privacy and independence, to avoid making their parents worried, to prevent conflict, and to reduce the possibility of excessive parental control. Keywords: Self-Disclosure, Migrant Students, WhatsApp, Johari Window, Family Communication Penelitian ini membahas Pola pengungkapan diri mahasiswa perantauan di Jakarta kepada orang tua melalui media komunikasi WhatsApp.
