Abstract

The main problem that is often encountered by a student is a lack of motivation in undergoing their learning. Both when these students go to school and when these students learn other things such as religious lessons which are outside the obligation they have to study at school. The problems that occurs in the Sunday school Barito Kids Jakarta Selatan is that the teacher who is tasked with educating the kids is a creative teacher, but there is still many students who are still less motivated to learn due to the lack of precise communication patterns used by instructor to approaching between teachers and students. This is also influenced by the varying age levels between students, so the communications patterns used must be chosen appropriately. Focus of this research is what kinds of communication patterns can be applied by a Sunday school teacher as a teaching staff in increasing the learning motivation of students. In this study, the authors took the theory of communication, communication function and goals, communication pattern, and motivation theory as the basis of the research. This research was conducted with a constructivist paradigm and using a qualitative approach method. While the research subjects taken were Sunday shool’s children of Barito Kids South Jakarta. Data collection conducted by researchers is through in-depth interviews, observation and indirect data sources in the form of data or documentation. The result of this study indicate that the best communications patterns that can be carried out by the teachers are age-appropriate communications pattern and in accordance with the situations and conditions that existed at the time the message delivery process occurred. Keywords : Communication Patterns, Learning Motivation, Teacher, Sunday School Permasalahan utama yang sering dijumpai oleh seorang peserta didik adalah kurangnya motivasi dalam menjalani masa belajarnya. Baik pada saat peserta didik tersebut bersekolah maupun pada saat peserta didik tersebut mempelajari hal-hal lain seperti pelajaran agama yang merupakan kewajiban diluar kewajiban belajar di sekolah. Permasalahan utama yang terjadi di sekolah minggu Barito Kids Jakarta Selatan adalah bahwa guru sekolah minggu yang bertugas untuk mendidik anak-anak sekolah minggu merupakan pengajar yang kreatif, namun masih banyak ditemui peserta didik yang masih kurang termotivasi untuk belajar dikarenakan kurang tepatnya pola komunikasi yang digunakan oleh pengajar sebagai sarana pendekatan antara pengajar dan peserta didik. Hal ini juga dipengaruhi oleh jenjang usia antar murid yang bervariasi, sehingga pola komunikasi yang digunakan pun harus dipilih secara tepat. Fokus dalam penelitaian ini adalah pola komunikasi seperti apakah yang dapat diterapkan oleh seorang guru sekolah minggu sebagai tenaga pengajar dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar dari peserta didik. Dalam penelitian ini penulis mengambil teori komunikasi, fungsi dan tujuan komunikasi, pola komunikasi dan teori motivasi sebagai dasar dari penelitian. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan paradigma konstruktivis dan menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif. Sedangkan subyek penelitian yang diambil adalah anak-anak sekolah minggu Barito Kids Jakarta Selatan. Pengumpulan data yang dilakukan oleh peneliti adalah melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi dan sumber data tak langsung yang berupa data ataupun dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pola komunikasi terbaik yang dapat dilakukan oleh pengajar adalah pola komunikasi yang sesuai umur dan sesuai dengan situasi dan kondisi yang ada pada saat proses penyampaian pesan terjadi.
