Abstract
The Smartphone is one of the technologies that are evolving rapidly. The Smartphone is equipped with interesting features, one of which is instant messaging (Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). But we realize the use of smartphone makes us dependence towards advanced technology. Media literacy for adolescents to become a thing that's important to critically analyze the access, media messages and create message using media tools. This research aims to know the level of literacy of the media against the use of social media (Facebook and Twitter) among teenagers SMK Negeri 2 city of South Tangerang, a Theory used in this research is the theory of media literacy, James W. Potter using the quantitative approach, the paradigm of positivism, descriptive research methods with the collection of data obtained through the dissemination of questionnaires, sampling by using Simple Random Sampling, the samples in research This amounted to 87 people. The results of this study showed that the level of media literacy adolescents SMK Negeri 2 South Tangerang City based on Individual aspects of Competence Framework that consists of three indicators as follows: media literacy levels based on Skill Use indicators obtained average value of 36.38 by 60.93% of respondents classified in the category of being, in indicators of Critical Understanding obtained average value of 47.85 by 51.72% of respondents fall into the category of being and on indicators of Communicative Abilities obtained average value of 27.34 by 59.77% and fall into the category of being. Key Words: Media Literacy, Social Media, Teenagers, Individual Competence Smartphone merupakan salah satu teknologi yang berkembang dengan pesat. Smartphone dilengkapi dengan fitur-fitur menarik, salah satunya adalah pesan instan (Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, dll). Namun tanpa kita sadari penggunaan smartphone membuat kita menjadi ketergantungan terhadap teknologi canggih tersebut. Literasi media bagi kalangan remaja menjadi suatu hal yang penting untuk menganalisis secara kritis dalam mengakses, pesan media dan menciptakan pesan menggunakan alat media. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat literasi media terhadap penggunaan media sosial (Facebook dan Twitter) dikalangan remaja SMK Negeri 2 Kota Tangerang Selatan, Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori literasi media James W. Potter dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, paradigma positivisme, metode penelitian deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui penyebaran kuesioner, pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan Simple Random Sampling, sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 87 orang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa tingkat literasi media remaja SMK Negeri 2 kota Tangerang Selatan berdasarkan aspek Individual Competence Framework yang terdiri dari tiga indikator sebagai berikut: tingkat literasi media berdasarkan indikator Use Skill diperoleh nilai rata-rata 36.38 oleh 60.93% responden tergolong dalam kategori sedang, pada indikator Critical Understanding diperoleh nilai rata-rata 47.85 oleh 51.72% responden masuk dalam kategori sedang dan pada indikator Communicative Abilities diperoleh nilai rata-rata 27.34 oleh 59.77% dan masuk dalam kategori sedang.
