Abstract

Imperfect is a film by director Ernest Prakasa that was successful in 2019. This film telling a story about Rara who often gets pressure from her surroundings, Rara is considered not beautiful to look at because of her fat body, brown skin and curly hair. This research was conducted to see how the representation of women's beauty standards in Indonesia is conveyed by the film Imperfect. The research method used by researchers in this study is the method of semiotic analysis of Charles Sanders Peirce. This theory is a science or method of analysis that examines signs. This theory uses the terms icon, index, and symbol. The results of this study are that the standard of female beauty still exists and what is shown in the film Imperfect is considered beautiful if she is white and fair-skinned, has long hair, is thin or has a slim body. Keywords: Representation, Beauty Standards, Imperfect, Charles Sanders Perice's Semiotics. Imperfect merupakan film karya sutradara Ernest Prakasa yang sukses pada tahun 2019. Film ini menceritakan tentang Rara yang kerap mendapat tekanan dari lingkungan sekitarnya, Rara dinilai tidak indah dipandang karna bertubuh gemuk, kulit sawomatang dan rambut keriting. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat bagaimana representasi standard kecantikan perempuan di Indonesia disampaikan oleh film Imperfect. Metode penelitian yang digunakan peneliti dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Teori ini merupakan suatu ilmu atau metode analisis yang mengkaji mengenai tanda. Teori ini menggunakan istilah ikon, indeks, dan symbol. Hasil Penelitian ini adalah standard kecantikan perempuan itu masih ada dan yang ditunjukkan pada film Imperfect ini adalah perempuan dinilai cantik jika ia berkulit putih dan mulus, berambut panjang, berbadan kurus ataupun langsing.
