Abstract
Music preference research proved hypotheses about personality relationships and musical preferences. This study replicated several previous studies with samples (N = 150). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between personality and music preferences. Respondents were asked to fill out a questionnaire to measure their personality and musical preference. The results of this study proved the relationship between personality types with musical preferences. extraversion has a relationship with three dimensions of music: mellow, unpretentious and contemporary. Agreeable personality type has a relationship to two dimensions of music: mellow and unpretentious. conscientiousness has a relationship with two dimensions of music: mellow and unpretentious. neuroticism has a negative relationship with significance to the two dimensions of music: mellow and sophisticated. And the openness personality type has a relationship to four dimensions: mellow, unpretentious, sophisticated and contemporary. While intense music has no connection with any type of personality. Gender variables change the value of significance between extraversion personality types and mellow music. Keywords: Music preference, Personality, Big five. Penelitian preferensi musik mendukung hipotesis tentang hubungan kepribadian dan preferensi musik. Penelitian ini mereplikasi beberapa penelitian sebelumnya dengan sampel (N = 150). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kepribadian dan preferensi musik. Responden diminta mengisi kuesioner untuk mengukur kepribadian dan prefrensi musik mereka. Hasil penelitian ini mendukung hubungan antra tipe kepribadian dengan preferensi musik. extraversion memiliki hubungan terhadap tiga dimensi musik, yaitu: mellow, unpretentious dan contemporary. Tipe kepribadian agreeable memiliki hubungan terhadap dua dimensi musik, yaitu: mellow dan unpretentious. conscientiousness memiliki hubungan terhadap dua dimensi musik, yaitu: mellow dan unpretentious. neuroticism memiliki hubungan negatif yang signifikansi terhadap dua dimensi musik, yaitu: mellow dan sophisticated. Dan tipe kepribadian openess memiliki hubungan terhadap empat dimensi, yaitu: mellow, unpretentious, sophisticated dan contemporary. Sementara music intense tidak memiliki hubungan dengan tipe kepribadian apapun. Variable jenis kelamin mengubah nilai signifikansi antara tipe kepribadian extraversion dengan musik mellow.
