Abstract

Documentary film is a visual medium that not only presents factual information objectively but also holds significant educational and cultural value. Through a structured cinematographic approach, documentaries are capable of constructing strong visual narratives that evoke emotional responses from viewers. One of the local cultures highlighted in this work is the traditional arak distillation practice, passed down through generations by the community of Jungutan Village, Karangasem, Bali. This study examines the application of the Five C’s of Cinematography technique in the production of the documentary film Warisan Dalam Tiap Tetes. The technique comprises five key elements camera angle, continuity, cutting, closeup, and composition, which serve as the foundation for building visual quality and supporting the effective delivery of the documentary's message. The researcher took on the role of the cameraman and directly applied these five techniques during the film production process. This research employs an applicative approach, encompassing the stages of pre-production, production, and post-production. Each stage was designed to optimize the use of the Five C’s technique in alignment with the cultural values being portrayed. For instance, the choice of camera angles was intended to emphasize the sacredness of the distillation process, while visual composition was aimed at highlighting the intricate details of the tradition. Continuity and cutting techniques were applied to maintain a coherent and communicative visual flow. The results show that the application of the Five C’s technique significantly enhances the visual strength of the documentary. Proper selection of angles, scene continuity, and well-directed editing rhythm effectively reinforce the cultural messages conveyed in the film. Warisan Dalam Tiap Tetes serves not only as a visual work but also as a medium for preserving local culture, and is expected to be a valuable reference for students and practitioners in the fields of cinematography and cultural documentary filmmaking. Keywords: Five C’s of Cinematography, Cinematography Techniques, Documentary Film, Cultural Heritage, Arak Bali, Film Production, Cameraman Film dokumenter merupakan media visual yang tidak hanya menyampaikan fakta secara objektif, tetapi juga memiliki nilai edukatif dan budaya yang tinggi. Melalui pendekatan sinematografi yang terstruktur, dokumenter mampu membangun narasi visual yang kuat dan menyentuh aspek emosional penonton. Salah satu budaya lokal yang diangkat dalam karya ini adalah praktik penyulingan arak tradisional yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun oleh masyarakat di Desa Jungutan, Karangasem, Bali. Laporan ini mengkaji penerapan teknik Five C’s of Cinematography dalam produksi film dokumenter Warisan Dalam Tiap Tetes. Teknik ini terdiri dari lima elemen utama, yaitu camera angle, continuity, cutting, close-up, dan composition, yang menjadi acuan dalam membangun kualitas visual serta mendukung penyampaian pesan dokumenter secara efektif. Penulis berperan sebagai juru kamera dan secara langsung mengaplikasikan kelima teknik tersebut dalam proses produksi film. Laporan ini menggunakan pendekatan aplikatif melalui tahapan praproduksi, produksi, dan pasca-produksi. Setiap tahapan dirancang untuk mengoptimalkan penggunaan teknik Five C’s agar sesuai dengan nilai-nilai budaya yang ingin ditampilkan. Misalnya, pemilihan sudut kamera digunakan untuk memperkuat kesan sakral proses penyulingan, komposisi gambar diarahkan untuk menyoroti detail tradisi, serta teknik continuity dan cutting diterapkan guna menjaga alur visual yang konsisten dan komunikatif. Hasil penerapan teknik Five C’s menunjukkan kontribusi signifikan terhadap kekuatan visual dokumenter. Pemilihan angle yang tepat, kesinambungan adegan, dan ritme penyuntingan yang terarah memperkuat pesan budaya yang disampaikan dalam film. Dokumenter Warisan Dalam Tiap Tetes tidak hanya menjadi karya visual, tetapi juga media pelestarian budaya lokal yang diharapkan menjadi referensi bagi mahasiswa maupun praktisi di bidang sinematografi dan produksi film dokumenter berbasis budaya.
