Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah mendorong meningkatnya penggunaan game online dan media sosial, khususnya di kalangan Generasi Z. Fenomena ini tidak hanya memengaruhi pola interaksi sosial, tetapi juga berimplikasi pada keterampilan komunikasi serta motivasi berkomunikasi individu. Penelitian ini bertujuan Untuk mengukur pengaruh dari penggunaan game online pada keterampilan komunikasi generasi Z; Untuk mengukur pengaruh dari penggunaan game online dengan motivasi berkomunikasi generasi Z; Untuk mengukur pengaruh dari penggunaan media sosial pada keterampilan komunikasi generasi Z; Untuk mengukur pengaruh dari penggunaan media sosial pada motivasi berkomunikasi generasi Z. Penelitian ini berparadigma positivisme, berpendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan Partial Least Squares– Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) untuk menguji hubungan antarvariabel penelitian.Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada 124 responden Generasi Z yang berdomisili di DKI Jakarta. Ditelaah dengan menggunakan motivated information management theory, reasoned action theory, skills theory, dan use and gratififation theory. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa game online dan media sosial memiliki pengaruh yang berbeda terhadap keterampilan dan motivasi berkomunikasi Generasi Z, yang dibuktikan melalui analisis SEM. Penggunaan game online berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keterampilan komunikasi dengan nilai koefisien sebesar 0,161 dan T-statistik 2,030. Namun, pengaruh game online terhadap motivasi berkomunikasi meskipun bersifat positif dengan nilai koefisien 0,124, tidak menunjukkan signifikansi statistik karena memiliki T-statistik 1,346. Di sisi lain, media sosial terbukti berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keterampilan komunikasi Generasi Z dengan nilai koefisien 0,149 dan T-statistik 2,522. Lebih lanjut, media sosial juga memberikan pengaruh positif dan sangat signifikan terhadap motivasi berkomunikasi dengan nilai koefisien 0,090 dan T- statistik 6,315. Kelemahan dalam penelitian ini objek penelitian yang terbatas pada Generasi Z dalam konteks wilayah dan karakteristik tertentu membatasi generalisasi hasil penelitian ke populasi yang lebih luas atau kelompok generasi lainnya. The development of digital technology has encouraged the increased use of online games and social media, especially among Generation Z. This phenomenon not only affects social interaction patterns but also has implications for individuals' communication skills and motivation to communicate. This study aims to measure the influence of online gaming on Generation Z's communication skills; to measure the influence of online gaming on Generation Z's motivation to communicate; to measure the influence of social media on Generation Z's communication skills; and to measure the influence of social media on Generation Z's motivation to communicate. This study uses a positivist paradigm and a quantitative approach with a survey method. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the relationship between the research variables. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 124 Generation Z respondents residing in DKI Jakarta. The data were analyzed using motivated information management theory, reasoned action theory, skills theory, and use and gratification theory. The results of the study indicate that online games and social media have different effects on Generation Z's communication skills and motivation, as evidenced by SEM analysis. The use of online games has a positive and significant effect on communication skills with a coefficient value of 0.161 and a T-statistic of 2.030. However, the effect of online games on communication motivation, although positive with a coefficient value of 0.124, does not show statistical significance because it has a T-statistic of 1.346. On the other hand, social media has been proven to have a positive and significant effect on Generation Z's communication skills with a coefficient value of 0.149 and a T-statistic of 2.522. Furthermore, social media also has a positive and highly significant effect on communication motivation with a coefficient value of 0.090 and a T-statistic of 6.315. A limitation of this study is that the research subjects were limited to Generation Z in a specific region and with specific characteristics, which limits the generalization of the research results to a broader population or other generational groups.
