Abstract
Communication is a fundamental human need, including for people with hearing impairments who have limitations in hearing and therefore require specific communication patterns. This study aims to examine the communication patterns between trainers and deaf participants during the training process at the Learning Centre of Thisable Enterprise. This research employs a constructivist paradigm with a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through indepth interviews, observation, and documentation involving trainers and deaf participants as informants. The results indicate that the communication patterns applied during the training process consist of interpersonal communication using one-way, two-way, and multi-directional communication, adjusted to the conditions of the participants. The communication process combines verbal and nonverbal communication, including lip reading, sign language, visual aids, hands-on practice, and the use of technological media such as speech-to-text translation applications. These communication patterns are considered effective in helping deaf participants understand the training materials. Supporting factors include the trainers’ patience, understanding of participants’ characteristics, and the use of supporting media, while inhibiting factors mainly involve differences in levels of hearing impairment and limited mastery of sign language. This study concludes that appropriate and adaptive communication patterns play an important role in the success of the training process for deaf participants at the Learning Centre of Thisable Enterprise, thereby supporting the empowerment and job readiness of people with hearing impairments. Komunikasi merupakan kebutuhan fundamental dalam kehidupan manusia, termasuk bagi penyandang disabilitas tunarungu yang memiliki keterbatasan dalam pendengaran sehingga memerlukan pola komunikasi khusus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola komunikasi antara pelatih dan peserta tunarungu dalam proses pelatihan di Learning Centre Thisable Enterprise. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi dengan informan yang terdiri dari pelatih dan peserta tunarungu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pola komunikasi yang diterapkan dalam proses pelatihan adalah komunikasi interpersonal dengan penerapan komunikasi satu arah, dua arah, dan banyak arah, yang disesuaikan dengan kondisi peserta. Proses komunikasi dilakukan melalui perpaduan komunikasi verbal dan nonverbal, seperti penggunaan bahasa bibir, bahasa isyarat, alat peraga, praktik langsung, serta bantuan media teknologi berupa aplikasi penerjemah suara ke teks. Pola komunikasi ini dinilai efektif karena mampu membantu peserta tunarungu memahami materi pelatihan dengan baik. Faktor pendukung komunikasi meliputi kesabaran pelatih, pemahaman terhadap karakteristik peserta, serta penggunaan media pendukung, sedangkan faktor penghambat utamanya adalah perbedaan tingkat ketunarunguan dan keterbatasan penguasaan bahasa isyarat. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pola komunikasi yang tepat dan adaptif sangat berperan dalam keberhasilan proses pelatihan peserta tunarungu di Learning Centre Thisable Enterprise, sehingga dapat mendukung pemberdayaan dan kesiapan kerja penyandang disabilitas tunarungu.
