Abstract
The study discussed the dynamics of communication in Z Generation’s romance dating, focusing the discussion on conflict and resolution strategies. Z generations, growing up in the digital era tend to rely on technology and social media as their primary source of communication. However, the use of digital communication often leads to communication misinterpretation and conflict in the relationship. Hence, the research aimed to understand the experience of Z Gens’ communication on romantic conflict and identify the communication strategies that Z Gen use to compromise their differences. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method, conducting a series of interviews with Gens Z couple from several relationship background, such as prelection - prelection, work-prelection, work-work, and Long Distance Relationship. The result of the research found that effective communication in Gen Z romance dating is highly influenced by honesty, openness, and conflict management. Social media allow long-distance lovebirds to improve communication, but it also causes a conflict due to the lack of expression on digital messages. The conflict dynamics then can be compromise with strategies such as face-to-face communication, emotion management, and building deeper understanding among the couple. Overall, this research is expected to give insights to academic and Z Gen couple to enhance the quality of communication in their romantic relationship. Keywords: Generation Z, romantic communication, social media, relationship conflict, interpersonal communication Penelitian ini membahas tentang dinamika komunikasi dalam pacaran romantis Generasi Z, dengan fokus pembahasan pada strategi konflik dan resolusi. Generasi Z yang tumbuh di era digital cenderung mengandalkan teknologi dan media sosial sebagai sumber komunikasi utama. Namun penggunaan komunikasi digital sering kali menimbulkan salah tafsir komunikasi dan konflik dalam hubungan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami pengalaman komunikasi Z Gen dalam konflik romantis dan mengidentifikasi strategi komunikasi yang digunakan Z Gen untuk mengompromikan perbedaan mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, dengan melakukan serangkaian wawancara terhadap pasangan Gen Z dari beberapa latar belakang hubungan, seperti Kuliah - Kuliah, Kerja - Kuliah, Kerja - Kerja, dan Long Distance Relationship. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa komunikasi efektif dalam kencan romantis Gen Z sangat dipengaruhi oleh kejujuran, keterbukaan, dan manajemen konflik. Media sosial memungkinkan pasangan jarak jauh untuk meningkatkan komunikasi, namun juga menimbulkan konflik karena kurangnya ekspresi dalam pesan digital. Dinamika konflik kemudian dapat dikompromikan dengan strategi seperti komunikasi tatap muka, pengelolaan emosi, dan membangun pemahaman yang lebih dalam di antara pasangan. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan kepada akademisi dan pasangan Z Gen untuk meningkatkan kualitas komunikasi dalam hubungan romantis mereka.
