Abstract

One of the most dominant and growing forms of mass communication is film. Film is able to influence or shape a way of view with the content of the message it contains. One of them is how interpersonal communication is in social life. This research examined the film “Interpersonal Diadic Communication of Captain and First officer in The Flight film”, which tells the story of Captain Pilot named Whiliam Whip Whitaker and First officer Ken Evans who are in charge of flying a SouthJet aircraft, SJ-227. However, in the middle of the journey the plane was damaged and caused the plane to have an accident. The purpose of this study is to find out how interpersonal diadic communication is between the captain and first officer represented in the film. In the process of interpreting the meaning on signs, the author uses the theory of the construction of social reality of mass media pioneered by Berger and Luckman in the theory of the construction of social reality, where the process of constructing reality is basically any attempt to tell (conceptualize) an event, situation or object (thing). This is what the media does by presenting reality to the public through the process of media construction. This research uses a constructivist paradigm, with a qualitative approach and a semiotic analysis method of Ferdinand de Saussure, consisting of signifiers and signified. The unit of analysis is 8 pieces of the scene that describe the interpersonal diadic communication of the captain and first officer including nonverbal and verbal signs. Based on the results of this study, it was found that there was good interpersonal communication between the captain and the first officer, which can be seen from the interaction and the achievement of the goal of interpersonal communication between them during the flight, especially when facing the emergency conditions, so that many victims could be saved. Keywords: film, interpersonal diadic communication, semiotics, flight crew. Salah satu bentuk komunikasi massa yang paling dominan dan terus berkembang adalah film. Film mampu mempengaruhi atau membentuk suatu cara pandang dengan isi pesan yang dikandungnya. Salah satunya adalah bagaimana komunikasi interpersonal dalam kehidupan sosial. Penelitian ini meneliti film “Komunikasi Interpersonal Diadik Captain dan First officer Pada Film Flight”, yang menceritakan seorang Captain pilot penerbangan bernama Whiliam Whip Whitaker dan First officer Ken Evans yang bertugas menerbangkan pesawat SouthJet, SJ-227. Namun ditengah perjalanan nya pesawat mengalami kerusakan dan menyebabkan pesawat harus mengalami kecelakaan. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana komunikasi interpersonal diadik antara captain dan first officer yang direpresentasikan dalam film tersebut. Dalam proses menafsirkan makna pada tanda, penulis menggunakan teori konstruksi realitas sosial media massa yang dipelopori oleh Berger dan Luckman dalam teori konstruksi realitas atas sosial, dimana proses konstruksi realitas pada dasarnya adalah setiap upaya untuk menceritakan (mengkonseptualisasikan) suatu peristiwa, situasi, atau objek (benda). Hal inilah yang dilakukan oleh media dengan menghadirkan realitas kepada publik melalui proses konstruksi media. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode analisis semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure yang terdiri dari penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified). Adapun unit analisisnya adalah 8 potongan scene yang menggambarkan komunikasi interpersonal captain dan first officer meliputi tanda nonverbal dan verbal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini ditemukan adanya komunikasi interpersonal diadik yang baik antara captain dan first officer yang dapat terlihat dari interaksi serta tercapainya tujuan komunikasi interpersonal yang baik antara keduanya selama penerbangan terutama pada saat menghadapi kondisi krisis / emergency sehingga banyak korban yang dapat diselamatkan.
