Abstract

The WhatsApp application for 2019 Public Relations students will benefit from being influenced by the communication process, because with the establishment of group communication it can be closer and easier to communicate. The WhatsApp application can provide convenience in interacting and communicating. This study aims to determine the use of WhatsApp groups as group communication for Public Relations students at Mercu Buana University, West Jakarta. This study uses Turner's theory which explains abstract concepts and the relationships between these concepts that can help us understand a phenomenon. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, data collection techniques using observation, in-depth interviews. While the data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman models: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion. The results of research on the Utilization of WhatsApp Groups in Group Communication in Organizing Event Management Student Public Relations Activities at Mercu Buana University are currently very helpful in the discussion process, learning using the WhatsApp Group is easier to use in managing time with group members. So that during the learning process and discussion with its members can run well, smoothly and easier to interact with group members. The conclusion of this study is that the use of the WhatsApp group application has social and technological benefits. This application provides support in carrying out online learning and discussions. WhatApp Group allows students to convey information, and share ideas from each student member, and supports online discussions Keywords: Using WhatsApp, Group Communication, Event Management, Interaction. Aplikasi WhatsApp bagi mahasiswa Public Relations 2019 ini manfaatnya akan mendapatkan pengaruh proses komunikasi, karena dengan terjalinnya komunikasi kelompok bisa lebih dekat dan lebih mudah untuk berkomunikasi. Aplikasi WhatsApp dapat memberikan kemudahan dalam berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pemanfaatan WhatsApp group sebagai komunikasi kelompok mahasiswa Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Turner yang menjelaskan konsep yang abstrak dan hubungan-hubungan konsep tersebut yang dapat membantu kita untuk memahami sebuah fenomena. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kualitatif, teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara mendalam. Sedangkan teknik analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman: Reduksi data, Penyajian data, Penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian pada Pemanfaatan WhatsApp Group Dalam Komunikasi Kelompok Pada Penyelenggaraan Kegiatan Event Management Mahasiswa Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana saat ini sangat membantu pada proses berdiskusi, belajar dengan menggunakan WhatsApp Group lebih mudah digunakan dalam mengatur waktu dengan anggota kelompok. Sehingga pada saat proses belajar dan diskusi dengan anggota nya dapat berjalan dengan baik, lancar dan lebih mudah untuk berinteraksi dengan anggota kelompoknya. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini Pemanfaatan Aplikasi WhatsApp group memiliki manfaat sosial dan teknologi. Aplikasi ini memberikan dukungan dalam melaksanakan belajar dan berdiskusi secara online. WhatApp Group memungkinkan mahasiswa untuk menyampaikan sebuah informasi, dan membagikan ide dari setiap anggota mahasiswa, serta mendukung terjadinya diskusi secara online. Kata kunci: Pemanfaatan WhatsApp, Komunikasi Kelompok, Event Management, Interaksi.
