Abstract
ABSTRACT A television production is a collective work which involves many crews. One of them is video tape recorder operator, who is responsible for operating recording device. This operator holds an important role in a television program production, especially in special event program in Global TV. The purpose of this reasearch is to find out the rules and problems of a video tape recorder operator, when special event program is produceed. Library study of this reasearch is taken from books about communication, mass communication, and broadcasting this reasearch use qualitative approach, wish descriptive reasearch type the reasearch method being used is case study by conducting an indepth interview with the interviewee. The result of this reasearch elaburate the roles and responsibilities of a video tape recorder operator in special event program in Global TV, as well as the problems he encountered during the production of said program which was done live on air. Thus, researchers can find out about the role of operator video tape recorder in the event special program on Global TV. This reasearch concludes that a video tape recorder has an important role in a television program production the operator has to have special ability and skill, because there are many problems during the operating of the recording device and the operator has to assume responsibility upon the recording result and playback of a television program
