Abstract

Quality is life. A simple word but has a deep meaning to sustain the organisation establishment. Such company endeavour to strive through implement and develop a strong line quality planning, control and engineering. They assure by conduct intensive quality activities will gain benefit both internal and external. Competition at global era also impact the company’s strategy moreover all customer required a specific settlement. So the company needs a tool to reflect the position of its performance including from quality matter. This research focusing on identification of cost of poor quality (CoQ) and how to implement its result to support and help developing a quality improvement sustainability. Research conducted in an automotive-part company named as DMIC that manufactures Wall Thickness Bearing. By implementing CoQ concept, the company would positioning its performance to propose quality policy and strategy. Result reveals that CoQ result was 1,09 % ~ 1,51 % comparing to sales amount. By its categories (P-A-F model) , Prevention Cost gets the lowest around 0,17 % ~ 0,21 %, while Failure Cost was the highest around 0,50 % ~ 0,94 %. It means that the organization must directly focused on how to conduct improvement preventing failure both internal and external. Result also shows that time allocation for Appraisal Cost too high (twice than prevention and failure cost) since Appearance Checking required lots of time and all product must be executed, not by sampling techniques. It means that no built-in-quality developed in production line so that in end of final inspection the organization must put the operator to final inspection tasks. Some important proposed improvement plan that must be soonly executed is reducing reject and rework that reflecting bad performance of quality through QC Circle and continuous improvement program that involving all employees. This research conduct a practical approach so a quantitative pattern rarely found. By job-site view and strengthen by actual data and observation, the writer sure that this tool will gain a positive benefit to the company. Keywords: Cost of Quality
