Abstract
Cultural differences, characteristics and personality among employees can occur in universities in 4 countries namely Australia, Canada, USA and Ireland with marketing team located in Southeast Asia. This study aims to determine the problems that arise due to differences in distance between countries, personalities, characteristics and culture among employees, goals and reasons Public Relations conduct activities to establish multicultural relations between employees and know the implementation of activities conducted Public Relations in establishing multicultural relations between employees period 2016. This research was descriptive qualitative research with postpositivism paradigm. Data were obtained by interviewing 5 informants namely Brand and Communication Manager, Regional Director of Sales and Marketing of Southeast Asia and 3 informants qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation and conclusion The results indicated that employee problems occur because employees are not open, hard to socialize, difficult to understand others and also difficult to adapt to others. Characteristics of age, education and gender lead to differences in perception and communication skills. Differences in language, communication, work ethics and beliefs, problems between employees lead to a lack of understanding of instruction and international language, not direct communication, not familiar, considered disciplined, committed and low motivated in work, and low trust in employees. Public Relations did activities so as not to interfere with the performance and productivity of employees and to learn the culture of other countries. Activities in the period 2016 include: giving awards, conducting regular meetings, touring and gathering and coordinate internal media to facilitate communication and improve communication effectiveness. Keywords: Culture, Multicultural, Public Relations, Global Communication Perbedaan budaya, karakteristik dan kepribadian antar karyawan dapat terjadi di pendidikan dari universitas di 4 negara yaitu Australia, Kanada, Amerika Serikat dan Irlandia dengan tim pemasaran berlokasi di Asia Tenggara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui masalah yang timbul akibat perbedaan jarak antar negara, kepribadian, karakteristik dan kebudayaan antar karyawan, tujuan dan alasan Public Relations melakukan kegiatan menjalin hubungan multikultural antar karyawan dan mengetahui implementasi kegiatan yang dilakukan Public Relations dalam menjalin hubungan multikultural antar karyawan periode 2016. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa permasalahan karyawan terjadi karena karyawan bersikap tidak terbuka, susah bersosialisasi, susah memahami orang lain dan juga susah beradaptasi dengan orang lain. Karakteristik usia, pendidikan dan jenis kelamin menimbulkan perbedaan persepsi dan kemampuan berkomunikasi. Perbedaan bahasa, komunikasi, etos kerja dan kepercayaan, permasalahan antar karyawan menimbulkan kurangnya pemahaman terhadap instruksi dan bahasa internasional, komunikasi tidak secara langsung, tidak mengenal dekat, dianggap berdisiplin, berkomitmen dan bermotivasi rendah dalam bekerja, dan adanya kepercayaan yang rendah pada karyawan. Public Relations melakukan kegiatan agar tidak mengganggu kinerja dan produktivitas karyawan dan untuk mempelajari budaya negara lain. Kegiatan di periode tahun 2016 antara lain: memberi award, melakukan rapat rutin, , tur dan gathering dan mengkoordinir media internal untuk memudahkan berkomunikasi dan meningkatkan efektivitas komunikasi.
