Abstract
Abusive and manipulative relationships are complex issues that have a negative impact on victims, both emotionally, psychologically and socially. This research aims to find out the phenomenon of abusive and manipulative relationships in Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore the in-depth experiences of informants who have been involved in toxic relationships. The results revealed that abusive and manipulative relationships generally begin with the love bombing phase, where the abuser gives excessive attention to create emotional dependence on the partner. Subsequently, the relationship progresses towards a phase of domination, emotional manipulation, and often ends with verbal or physical violence. The abuser usually acts on motives such as the need to dominate, fear of loss, and past traumatic experiences. In contrast, victims often feel trapped in the cycle of violence due to emotional dependence, lack of understanding of healthy relationships, and psychological manipulation such as gaslighting. This research emphasizes the importance of raising public awareness of the signs of unhealthy relationships. Measures such as education, psychological support for victims, and rehabilitation programs for perpetrators are needed to break the cycle of violence and encourage healthier relationships. This study is expected to serve as a reference for further research and practical steps in dealing with the phenomenon of abusive and manipulative relationships. Hubungan abusive dan manipulatif merupakan isu kompleks yang memberikan dampak negatif bagi korban, baik secara emosional, psikologis, maupun sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fenomena abusive dan manipulatif di Kota Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi untuk menggali pengalaman mendalam dari informan yang pernah terlibat dalam hubungan toksik. Pada penelitian terdahulu terdapat 5 penelitian terdahulu sedangkan kajian teoritis meliputi komunikasi interpersonal, abusive relationship, manipulative relationship, fenomenologi, dan fenomenologi menurut Alfred scutzh. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis, dan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitiannya menggunakan metode penelitian fenomenologi Alfred Scutzh. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 6 informan, Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara mendalam dan observasi dengan mengumpulkan data, mempersiapkan data, pemberian interpretasi atau penasfsiran, dan menyimpulkan atau mengecek ulang kajian. Adapun Teknik keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi metode dan triangulasi sumber data. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa hubungan abusive dan manipulatif umumnya diawali dengan fase love bombing, di mana pelaku memberikan perhatian berlebihan untuk menciptakan ketergantungan emosional pada pasangan. Selanjutnya, hubungan berkembang menuju fase dominasi, manipulasi emosional, dan sering kali diakhiri dengan kekerasan verbal atau fisik. Pelaku biasanya bertindak dengan motif seperti kebutuhan untuk mendominasi, rasa takut kehilangan, dan pengalaman traumatis di masa lalu. Sebaliknya, korban sering kali merasa terjebak dalam siklus kekerasan akibat ketergantungan emosional, kurangnya pemahaman tentang hubungan yang sehat, dan manipulasi psikologis seperti gaslighting.
