Abstract

The discourse of people with disabilities in films is still a practice of social injustice for minority groups. Films through stereotypes and negative representationsindirectly create the construction of people with disabilities as a minority group that cannot be separated from stigma and discrimination. The purpose of this study is todetermine How Disability is Represented in the Film Why Do You Love Me The theory in this study uses John Fiske's theory at three levels, namely the level of reality, the level of representation, and the level of ideology which then form ameaning of representation. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method using a critical paradigm. The data collection technique in this study was obtained by taking excerptsfrom several scenes in the film Why Do You Love Me. The results of this study found that disability is a condition that results inlimitations for someone in carrying out certain activities, which is caused by physical and sensory disorders and is represented in the scenes in the film Why Do You Love Me. Keywords: Disability, Why Do You Love Me, John Fiske, Representation Wacana penyandang disabilitas dalam film masih menjadi praktik ketidakadilansosial bagi kelompok minoritas. Film melalui stereotip dan representasi negatif secaratidak langsung menciptakan konstruksi penyandang disabilitas sebagai kelompokminoritas yang tidak bisa lepas dari stigma dan diskriminasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Bagaimana Representasi Disabilitas dalam film Why Do YouLove Me Teori pada penelitian ini menggunakan teori John Fiske dalam tiga level yaitulevel realitas, level representasi, dan level ideologi yang kemudian membentuk sebuahmakna representasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode diskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan paradigma kritis. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini diperoleh dengan mengambil cupilkan dari beberapa scene film Why Do You Love Me. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan disabilitas suatu kondisi yang mengakibatkanketerbatasan pada seseorang dalam melakukan aktivitas tertentu, yang disebabkan olehgangguan fisik dan sensorik dan di representasikan dalam scene-scene yang terdapat pada film Why Do You Love Me.
