Abstract
This quantitative research aims to investigate the influence of online gaming addiction on emotional intelligence at MAN 1 Mukomuko. This research used a sample of 167 students, sampled using probability sampling. Psychological scales used in this research were Emotional Intelligence Scale which was adapted from Camplisson & Cormican (2023) and Online Gaming Addiction Scale which was modified from Arisandy (2020). Simple regression analysis was used to test the variables. The results show that there is a significant negative affect correlation of -0.487. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.238 means that around 23.8% of the variance in emotional intelligence can be explained by online game addiction. Additionally, additional analyzes using t-test revealed that levels of online gaming addiction and emotional intelligence varied significantly by gender. Penelitian kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kecanduan game online terhadap kecerdasan emosional di MAN 1 Mukomuko. Penelitian ini menggunakan sampel sebanyak 167 siswa dengan teknik sampling berupa probability sampling. Instrumen pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Alat Ukur Kecerdasan Emosional yang diadaptasi dari Camplisson & Cormican (2023) dan Alat Ukur Kecanduan Game Online yang dimodifikasi dari Arisandy (2020). Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis regresi sederhana untuk menguji pengaruh variabel. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi pengaruh negatif yang signifikan sebesar -0,487. Koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,238 berarti sekitar 23,8% varian kecerdasan emosional dapat dijelaskan oleh kecanduan game online. Selain itu, analisis tambahan menggunakan uji t mengungkapkan bahwa tingkat kecerdasan emosional dan tingkat kecanduan game online bervariasi secara signifikan berdasarkan gender.
