Abstract
This research aims to examine the relationship between self-concept and attachment style with partner selection preferences in young adults. Selfconcept refers to an individual's perception of himself. Attachment style, on the other hand, refers to patterns of emotional relationships that develop from childhood and influence interpersonal interactions later in life. This research was conducted on 301 young adult respondents with an age range of 18 – 40 years. This research uses quantitative methods with correlational data analysis techniques. Sampling was carried out using probability sampling with random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using several instruments, namely the Nine Mate-Selection Question, Robson Self Concept Questionnaire, Adult Attachment Scale. The research results reveal that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-concept and partner selection preferences in early adulthood. This means that the higher the self-concept, the higher the preference for choosing a partner in early adulthood. The results of this study also reveal that there is a positive and significant relationship between attachment style (close, depend, anxiety) and partner selection preferences in early adulthood. This means that the higher the attachment style (close, depend, anxiety), the higher the preference for choosing a partner in early adulthood. These findings have implications in providing an overview of mate selection criteria in early adulthood.
