Abstract

In the evolution of the times, film has always been a medium of mass communication for conveying both verbal and non-verbal messages. Numerous social issues have been depicted in films, including the issue of sexual harassment. This issue is crucial due to the increasing number of sexual harassment cases and the lack of public understanding and awareness regarding the impact on victims. Hence, the film aims to educate and raise public awareness through the visual medium. A film production is inseparable from the role of a director. The director is the individual who leads and controls the dramatic and artistic aspects during the production process and directs actors and crew to realize the envisioned film. In the production process of the film “Jumpa,” the author, acting as the director, employed screen direction and mise en scene techniques. Screen direction was utilized to visually direct the audience's attention to essential elements in each scene, ensuring that the intended message was conveyed clearly and effectively. Mise en scene was applied through the arrangement of space, lighting, costumes, and relevant props to enhance the desired atmosphere and emotions in the film. The findings from this research indicate that the effective use of screen direction and mise en scene techniques can strengthen the message conveyed by the director. The audience responded emotionally to the visuals and the atmosphere created, which helped increase awareness of the issue of sexual harassment. The placement of actors and objects within the frame, the use of color, and the interplay of light and shadow successfully created tension and depicted the discomfort experienced by sexual harassment victims. The film “Jumpa” has achieved a significant impact through the use of these techniques, producing a work that is not only artistic but also socially meaningful. This research contributes to the understanding of how the director’s role and the use of cinematic techniques can influence the interpretation and reception of sensitive issues by the audience. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for other filmmakers in addressing complex social themes through the medium of film. Keywords : Film, Director, Screen Direction, Mise en Scene Dalam perkembagan zaman, film selalu menjadi media komunikasi massa untuk menyampaikan sebuah pesan verbal dan non verbal. Banyak isu-isu sosial yang diangkat ke dalam sebuah film salah satunya isu tentang pelecehan seksual. Isu ini penting karena terus meningkatnya kasus pelecehan seksual serta kurangnya pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai dampak yang ditimbulkan terhadap korban sehingga dengan adanya film bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi dan meningkatkan kesadaran publik melalui medium visual. Sebuah produksi film tak lepas dari peran seorang Sutradara. Sutradara adalah seorang yang memimpin dan mengontrol aspek dramatis dan artistik selama berjalannya proses produksi serta mengarahkan aktor dan kru untuk bisa mewujudkan sebuah film yang diharapkan. Dalam proses produksi film “Jumpa”, Penulis yang berperan sebagai sutradara, menggunakan teknik screen direction dan mise en scene dalam penggarapan filmnya. Teknik screen direction digunakan untuk mengarahkan perhatian penonton secara visual ke elemenelemen penting dalam setiap adegan, sehingga pesan yang ingin disampaikan dapat tersampaikan dengan jelas dan efektif. Mise en scene diterapkan melalui penataan ruang, pencahayaan, kostum, dan properti yang relevan untuk memperkuat atmosfer dan emosi yang diinginkan dalam film. Hasil temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik screen direction dan mise en scene secara efektif dapat memperkuat pesan yang ingin disampaikan oleh sutradara. Penonton merespons secara emosional terhadap visual dan suasana yang dibangun, yang membantu meningkatkan kesadaran akan masalah pelecehan seksual. Penempatan aktor dan objek dalam frame, penggunaan warna, serta permainan cahaya dan bayangan berhasil menciptakan ketegangan dan menggambarkan ketidaknyamanan yang dialami korban pelecehan seksual. Film "Jumpa" berhasil menciptakan dampak yang signifikan melalui penggunaan teknik-teknik ini, menghasilkan karya yang tidak hanya artistik tetapi juga bermakna secara sosial. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam pemahaman tentang bagaimana peran sutradara dan penggunaan teknik-teknik sinematik dapat mempengaruhi interpretasi dan penerimaan penonton terhadap isu-isu sensitif. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi para pembuat film lain dalam menangani tema-tema sosial yang kompleks melalui medium film.
