Abstract

This research aims to analyze how family communication between parents and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) builds effective communication, utilizing the theory of family communication patterns. The research method employed is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data were gathered through interviews with several key informants and analyzed to identify communication barriers faced by parents and strategies used to overcome these barriers. Based on the theory of family communication patterns, findings indicate that economic factors and time management are primary barriers, which parents can address through continuous learning, seeking support, and implementing effective communication techniques. Acceptance and understanding of the child's needs, along with a stimulating environment and collaboration with professionals, were also found to be crucial factors in building effective communication according to this theory. In conclusion, parents need to consistently accept, understand, and guide their children through various effective communication approaches, in line with the theory of family communication patterns. Keywords: Family Communication, Autistic Disability, Effectiveness Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana komunikasi keluarga antara orang tua dan anak penyandang disabilitas autis dalam membangun komunikasi yang efektif, dengan menggunakan teori pola komunikasi keluarga. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan beberapa key informan dan dianalisis untuk mengidentifikasi hambatan komunikasi yang dihadapi orang tua serta strategi yang digunakan untuk mengatasi hambatan tersebut. Berdasarkan teori pola komunikasi keluarga, temuan menunjukkan bahwa faktor ekonomi dan manajemen waktu merupakan hambatan utama, namun orang tua dapat mengatasi hal ini dengan terus belajar, mencari dukungan, dan menerapkan teknik komunikasi yang efektif. Penerimaan dan pemahaman terhadap kebutuhan anak, bersama dengan lingkungan stimulatif dan kolaborasi dengan profesional, juga ditemukan sebagai faktor penting dalam membangun komunikasi yang efektif menurut teori ini. Kesimpulannya, orang tua perlu konsisten dalam menerima, memahami, dan membimbing anak mereka melalui berbagai pendekatan komunikasi yang efektif, sejalan dengan teori pola komunikasi keluarga.
