Abstract

Masculinity puts men as the primary controllers in various domestic, economic, social, and cultural activities. This occurs due to the assumption that men are stronger and more capable compared to women in various aspects of life, including the family environment. Masculinity in the film 'Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap' is portrayed through the character of the Father, who is portrayed as tough and superior within the family. This research aims to analyze the representation of masculinity in the character of the Father in the film 'Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap'. This research emphasizes the theoretical aspects of the representation of signs and meanings of masculinity in films and semiotic analysis. The representation discussed in this research focuses on the representation of masculinity depicted in films. The semiotic concept used refers to the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce. The research method employed in this study is qualitative with the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce. The data collection techniques utilized are observation and documentation, in the form of selected scenes from the film 'Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap.' The results of this research show that the character of the Father in the film 'Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap' is portrayed as a figure with masculine traits such a strong physical appearance, playing the role of a successful breadwinner, capable of controlling emotions and not openly displaying them, dominant, responsible, selfish, and adhering to moral principles to uphold the honor of the family. Keywords: Representation, Masculinity, Father Character, Film, Semiotic Maskulinitas menempatkan laki-laki sebagai pemegang kontrol utama dalam berbagai aktivitas domestik, ekonomi, sosial dan budaya. Hal ini terjadi karena anggapan bahwa laki-laki lebih kuat dan mampu dibandingkan perempuan dalam berbagai ranah kehidupan, salah satunya lingkungan keluarga. Maskulinitas pada film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap ditampilkan melalui karakter Bapak yang keras dan superior dalam keluarga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi maskulinitas karakter Bapak pada film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap. Penelitian ini menekankan pada aspek teoritis representasi tanda dan makna maskulinitas pada film serta analisis semiotika. Representasi yang dibahas pada penelitian ini berfokus pada representasi maskulinitas yang ditampilkan pada film. Adapun konsep semiotika yang digunakan merujuk pada teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi dan dokumentasi, berupa potongan scene pada film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa karakter Bapak pada film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap ditampilkan sebagai sosok dengan karakter maskulin seperti tampilan fisik yang gagah, berperan sebagai pencari nafkah yang sukses, mampu mengendalikan emosi dan tidak menunjukkan emosi secara terbuka, mendominasi, bertanggung jawab, egois, dan berpegang pada prinsip moral untuk menjaga kehormatan keluarga.
