Abstract
Film as an audio-visual art form has experienced rapid development in the digital era, playing a key role as a mass medium that conveys entertainment and stories to the public. The aim of this research is to explore and understand student reception of the use of mise en scene elements (lighting, set decoration, costumes and make- up) in the film 200 Pounds Beauty Indonesia. This research uses a constructivist paradigm with a reception analysis method that highlights the dynamics of the dominant position of hegemony, negotiation and opposition in student receptions through focus group discussions (FGD) involving ten informants. The research results show that the dominant interpretation in the dominant hegemonic position, setting, costumes and lighting in the film 200 Pounds Beauty succeeded in creating a rich and deep impression that was in accordance with the storyline and objectives of the film. In a negotiating position, informants had different opinions regarding the choice of costumes for Juwita's character in filmmaking. They suggest a desire to look at more natural processes of change, such as exercise or diet. In an oppositional position, there were informants who were dissatisfied with the location settings, especially the concert scenes in the filming. There were differences of opinion between the two informants regarding the shortcomings of make-up, especially in creating the impression of a fuller body. Keywords: Reception, audience, film, mise en scene, 200 Pounds Beauty Film sebagai bentuk seni audio-visual mengalami perkembangan pesat dalam era digital, memainkan peran kunci sebagai media massa yang menyampaikan hiburan dan cerita kepada masyarakat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengeksplorasi dan memahami resepsi mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan unsur-unsur mise en scene (pencahayaan, dekorasi set, kostum, dan tata rias) di dalam film 200 Pounds Beauty Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma konstruktivisme dengan metode analisis resepsi yang menyoroti dinamika posisi dominan hegemoni, negosiasi, dan oposisi dalam resepsi mahasiswa melalui focus group discussion (FGD) dengan melibatkan sepuluh informan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interpretasi dominan dalam posisi dominant hegemonic, setting, kostum, dan pencahayaan dalam film 200 Pounds Beauty berhasil menciptakan kesan yang kaya dan mendalam yang sesuai dengan alur cerita dan tujuan film. Dalam posisi negosiasi, informan memiliki pendapat yang berbeda-beda mengenai pemilihan kostum untuk karakter Juwita dalam pembuatan film. Mereka menyarankan keinginan untuk melihat proses perubahan yang lebih alami, seperti berolahraga atau diet. Dalam posisi oposisi, terdapat informan yang tidak puas dengan setting lokasi, terutama adegan konser dalam pembuatan film. Terdapat perbedaan pendapat antara dua informan mengenai kekurangan riasan, terutama dalam menciptakan kesan tubuh yang lebih berisi.
