Abstract

In many countries like Germany, Australia, Canada, and USA, short films are used as some kind of an experiment lab and also as a stepping stone for filmmakers to produce feature films. In the making of “Confined” short movie with drama genre, editor implements the Continuity Editing theory. Continuity Editing evolves in the Hollywood studio mass production climate in early 1900s where the use of editing which connects narration scenes to satisfy audiences continues to expand and more dynamic. This technique allows editor in giving the illusion as if all dialogues and actions that’s happening on the screen looks like realtime, it’s happening continuously without any cuts. The process in the making of “Confined” movie splits into three phases, which are: Pre Production, Production, and Post Production. The Pre Production phases in writer’s team includes story ideas brainstorming, deciding the film’s title, surveying and picking the locations, casting, and arranging the budgets. The Production phase was done in two days, and then moving on to Post Production phase. This last phase includes Offline Editing (Rough Cut), Online Editing which focused on Color Correction and Color Grading, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Design, and Music Scoring. Di banyak negara seperti Jerman, Australia, Kanada, dan Amerika Serikat, film pendek dijadikan semacam laboratorium eksperimen dan batu loncatan bagi para filmmaker untuk memproduksi film feature. Dalam pembuatan film pendek “Confined” dengan genre drama, editor menerapkan teori Continuity Editing. Continuity Editing berevolusi pada iklim studio produksi massal Hollywood pada awal tahun 1900-an dimana penggunaan editing yang menghubungkan adegan narasi untuk memuaskan penonton yang terus berkembang dan lebih dinamis. Teknik ini mampu membantu editor dalam memberikan ilusi seakan-akan percakapan dan kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh para karakter terlihat seperti realtime alias terjadi secara berlanjut tanpa ada pemotongan. Proses pembuatan film “Confined” terbagi menjadi tiga tahapan produksi, yakni: Pra Produksi, Produksi, dan Pasca Produksi. Tahapan Pra Produksi dalam tim penulis meliputi penentuan ide cerita, penentuan judul film, survey dan pemilihan lokasi, casting, serta menyusun rancangan anggaran. Tahapan Produksi dilakukan dalam waktu dua hari, lalu dilanjutkan ke tahapan Pasca Produksi. Tahapan terakhir ini meliputi Editing Offline (Rough Cut), Editing Online yang berfokus pada koreksi warna, Visual Effect, Sound Mixing, Sound Design, dan Music Scoring. Kata Kunci: Drama, Perkantoran, Continuity Editing.
