Abstract
The existence of the radio remains capable of delivering a new color in the development of the world mass media communication. Although there was a concern when the television was discovered, the news media experts predicted that the golden age of radio will soon disappear. However, such prediction was not proved because until now the radio still preferred by people with its own characteristics. Community radio is a radio that is trying to push to its listener to become a protagonist (main character) through active involvement in all aspects. This research will seek answers about the definition of professionalism in managing community radio and how to build a participatory community radio. This research uses qualitative descriptive study with a constructive paradigm. The results of this research obtained the following conclusions: First, the management of community radio should remain priority to the professionalism aspects in order to continue broadcasting. Second, the sustainability of community radio is based on the participation of the listeners with the greater number of listeners. Participation can be in the form of a contribution in terms of donations, ideas, speakers, program evaluation and monitoring of the sustainability of the radio broadcasts. Key word : The community radio, Professionalism, Participation. Eksistensi radio hingga kini tetap mampu memberikan warna baru dalam perkembangan dunia komunikasi media massa. Walaupun pernah ada kekhawatiran ketika ditemukan televisi para pakar media massa mengatakan masa keemasan radio akan segera lenyap. Namun prediksi tersebut tidak terbukti karena hingga kini radio tetap disukai oleh manusia dengan karakteristik yang dimilikinya. Radio komunitas merupakan radio yang berusaha mendorong untuk pendengar secara protagonis (tokoh utama) melalui keterlibatan aktif dalam seluruh aspek. Dalam penelitian akan mencari jawaban mengenai pengertian profesionalitas dalam mengelola radio komunitas dan bagaimana membangun radio komunitas yang partisipatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan paradigma konstruktivistis. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan sebagai berikut : Pertama, pengelolaan radio komunitas harus tetap mengutamakan aspek profesionalisme agar dapat terus bersiaran. Kedua, kekuatan radio komunitas bersumber pada partisipasi pendengar dengan semakin banyak jumlah pendengar, maka radio komunitas dapat bertahan. Partisipasi dapat berupa kontribusi dalam hal donasi, pemikiran, narasumber, evaluasi program dan pemantauan terhadap keberlangsungan siaran radio. Kata kunci : Radio Komunitas, Profesional, Partisipasi.
