Abstract

The rapid development of technology makes the emergence of new social media along with the times. One of them is Instagram which has many users in all corners of the world, Instagram social media can be one tool for the formation of a good personal branding in a person through photos and videos uploaded, but this is what is still not realized by active users of Instagram especially students Public Relations of Mercu Buana University This study uses the post positivism paradigm, the method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The subject of this research is the public relations student of the University of Mercubuana. Data collection in this study was obtained through in-depth interviews and supported by observations from documentation data and several research journals. The results of this study show that Public Relations Students utilize their social media instagram to build personal branding about themselves through the characteristics and abilities (skills) that they master to everyone, from the photos and videos that they upload into their personal instagram. Through impression management, they process the message they want to convey to others, so that what they convey can be received by the public and raises a good perception of themselves. So that the feed back that appears is marked by the emergence of likes, comments and new followers who want to follow him on his personal Instagram social media and self-attached image. Kata Kunci : Social Media, Instagram, Personal Branding, Public Relatios Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat menjadikan munculnya media sosial baru seiring perkembangan zaman. Salah satunya adalah Instagram yang mempunyai banyak penggunanya di seluruh penjuru dunia, Media sosial Instagram dapat menjadi salah satu alat untuk pembentukan personal branding yang baik pada diri seseorang melalui foto dan video yang diunggah namun hal tersebutlah yang masih kurang disadari oleh para pengguna aktif instagram khususnya Mahasiswa Public Relations Universitas Mercu Buana Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma post positivisme, metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif, Subyek Penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa public relations Univeristas mercubuana, Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dan didukung oleh observasi dari data-data dokumentasi dan beberapa jurnal penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini menujukan bahwa Mahasiswa Public Relations memanfaatkan media social instagramnya untuk membangun personal branding tentang diri mereka melalui ciri khas serta kemampuan (skill) yang mereka kuasai kepada semua orang, dari foto dan video yang mereka unggah ke dalam instagram pribadinya. Melalui manajemen kesan, mereka mengola pesan yang ingin di sampaikan kepada orang lain, agar apa yang mereka sampaikan dapat diterima oleh publik dan menimbulkan presepsi yang baik kepada dirinya. Sehingga feed back yang muncul ditandai dengan munculnya likes, komen serta followers baru yang ingin mengikuti dirinya pada media social instagram pribadinya serta citra diri yang melekat.
