Abstract

The rapid transformation of Jakarta into a modern metropolitan city has posed significant challenges to the preservation of Betawi culture as the city's indigenous identity, as traditional values continue to face threats from weak cultural regeneration and the growing dominance of global popular culture. This study aims to design the cinematographic aspects of the documentary film Suara Si Pitung, which highlights the existence of Sanggar Si Pitung in Rawa Belong as a center for preserving Betawi culture amid the dynamics of urban life. The researcher serves as the cinematographer by applying the Cinematic Documentary approach, emphasizing visual aesthetics and emotional exploration to establish a strong connection between the audience and the subjects. The main issue addressed in this study concerns how visual aesthetics can effectively represent the contrast between traditional Betawi values and the modern reality of Jakarta, as well as how cinematographic techniques can strengthen the narrative of cultural preservation. The design method is based on the 5C theory, consisting of Camera Angles, Continuity, Cutting, Close-ups, and Composition, as the foundation for creating communicative and cinematic visual storytelling. The visual strategy includes the use of available light to maintain authenticity, lenses with a shallow depth of field to emphasize the subjects' emotional expressions, and drone cinematography to capture the contrast between traditional neighborhoods and Jakarta's modern urban landscape. The production process was carried out in three stages: pre-production through in-depth research, production using a two-camera system, and post-production through editing with the match on action technique to ensure visual continuity. The expected outcome is a 25-minute documentary film that serves not only as an informative medium on Betawi cultural preservation but also as a work capable of fostering empathy, awareness, and public concern for safeguarding local cultural heritage amid the ongoing process of modernization. Pesatnya transformasi Jakarta sebagai kota metropolitan modern membawa tantangan serius terhadap kelestarian budaya Betawi sebagai identitas asli kota, karena nilai-nilai tradisi semakin menghadapi ancaman akibat lemahnya regenerasi dan kuatnya dominasi budaya populer global. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang aspek sinematografi dalam film dokumenter Suara Si Pitung, yang mengangkat eksistensi Sanggar Si Pitung di Rawa Belong sebagai ruang pelestarian budaya Betawi di tengah dinamika kehidupan urban. Penulis berperan sebagai juru kamera dengan menerapkan pendekatan Cinematic Documentary yang menekankan estetika visual dan eksplorasi emosi untuk membangun kedekatan antara penonton dan subjek. Permasalahan yang dikaji berfokus pada bagaimana estetika visual dapat merepresentasikan kontras antara nilai-nilai tradisional Betawi dan realitas modern Jakarta, serta bagaimana teknik pengambilan gambar diterapkan untuk memperkuat narasi pelestarian budaya. Metode perancangan mengacu pada teori 5C yang meliputi Camera Angles, Continuity, Cutting, Close-ups, dan Composition sebagai dasar penyusunan bahasa visual yang komunikatif dan sinematis. Strategi visual dilakukan melalui pemanfaatan available light untuk mempertahankan autentisitas suasana, penggunaan lensa dengan shallow depth of field untuk menonjolkan ekspresi emosional subjek, serta pengambilan gambar udara menggunakan drone guna memperlihatkan kontras antara kawasan tradisional dan lanskap perkotaan modern. Proses produksi dilaksanakan melalui tiga tahapan, yaitu pra-produksi berupa riset mendalam, produksi dengan sistem dua kamera, serta pascaproduksi melalui penyuntingan menggunakan teknik match on action untuk menjaga kesinambungan visual. Hasil akhir yang diharapkan berupa film dokumenter berdurasi 25 menit yang tidak hanya menjadi media informasi mengenai pelestarian budaya Betawi, tetapi juga mampu membangkitkan empati, kesadaran, dan kepedulian masyarakat terhadap pentingnya menjaga warisan budaya lokal di tengah arus modernisasi.
