Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana remaja Generasi Z (rentang usia 18-28 tahun) yang mengalami kondisi fatherless akibat perceraian orang tua membangun konsep diri mereka melalui interaksi di media sosial. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan paradigma konstruktivisme dan teori Interaksi Simbolik dari George Herbert Mead. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam kepada lima informan di DKI Jakarta yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Kedalaman data dalam penelitian ini dipastikan melalui teknik bertanya mendalam (probing) hingga mencapai titik jenuh (saturasi), di mana informasi yang didapat sudah lengkap dan tidak ditemukan lagi kategori data baru. Mengingat penelitian ini dilakukan di wilayah DKI Jakarta, maka temuan yang dihasilkan bersifat pemaknaan kontekstual dan tidak dimaksudkan untuk disamakan (generalisasi) dengan wilayah atau kelompok masyarakat lainnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan konsep diri para informan sangat dipengaruhi oleh cara mereka memaknai respons dari lingkungan digitalnya. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa informan cenderung menampilkan citra diri yang positif dan mandiri di Instagram guna menutupi luka emosional akibat kehilangan sosok ayah. Hal ini menyimpulkan bahwa media sosial menjadi sarana krusial bagi anak fatherless untuk mengelola identitas dan mencari dukungan emosional pascaperceraian. This research aims to understand how Generation Z (ranging from 18-28 years old) experiencing fatherlessness due to parental divorce construct their selfconcept through social media interaction. This qualitative study employs a case study method with a constructivism paradigm and George Herbert Mead’s Symbolic Interactionism theory. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with five informants in Jakarta, selected using purposive sampling. The depth of the data was ensured through probing techniques until reaching data saturation, a point where the information obtained was complete and no new categories of data were found. As a qualitative study conducted in Jakarta, these findings represent a contextual interpretation and are not intended for broad generalization to other populations or regions. The results indicate that the formation of the informants' self-concept is significantly influenced by how they interpret responses from their digital environment. The findings reveal that informants tend to project a positive and independent self-image on Instagram to cover emotional wounds caused by the absence of a father figure. This concludes that social media serves as a crucial tool for fatherless children to manage their identity and seek emotional support postdivorce.
