Abstract
This research aims to analyze the construction of the meaning of love in the film "Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film" (Falling in Love Like in the Movies) by Yandy Laurens. This study is motivated by the unique monochrome visual aesthetics and the representation of "Mature Love," which deconstructs the conventional romance tropes popular in Indonesia. The research focus is directed at how semiotic signs in eight key scenes represent the relationship dynamics between the characters Bagus and Hana. The theoretical framework employed includes Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis (denotation, connotation, and myth) and John Alan Lee's typology of love. This research utilizes a qualitative approach within the constructivism paradigm. Data collection techniques were conducted through textual observation of mise-enscène elements and scene documentation. The results indicate that the meaning of love in this film is constructed through three dominant forms: Storge (companionate love), Pragma (realistic love), and Agape (empathetic and self-sacrificing love). Semiotically, the use of monochrome visuals acts as a signifier of intimacy and profound emotional focus. The study concludes that the film successfully dissects the myth of fictitious romanticism toward a more humane, mature, and reflective interpretation of love. Love is no longer portrayed as an instantaneous passion but rather as a process of grief healing and respect for personal boundaries. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konstruksi makna cinta dalam film Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film karya Yandy Laurens. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keunikan visual monokrom dan representasi "Cinta Dewasa" yang mendekonstruksi pakem romansa populer di Indonesia. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada bagaimana tanda-tanda semiotik dalam delapan adegan kunci merepresentasikan dinamika hubungan antara karakter Bagus dan Hana. Landasan teoretis yang digunakan adalah analisis semiotika Roland Barthes (denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos) serta tipologi cinta dari John Alan Lee. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivisme. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi tekstual terhadap elemen mise-en-scène dan dokumentasi adegan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna cinta dalam film ini dikonstruksi melalui tiga bentuk dominan: Storge (kedekatan), Pragma (pertimbangan realistis), dan Agape (empati dan pengorbanan ego). Secara semiotis, penggunaan visual monokrom bertindak sebagai penanda keintiman dan fokus emosional yang mendalam. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa film Jatuh Cinta Seperti di Film-Film berhasil membedah mitos romantisme fiktif menuju pemaknaan cinta yang lebih manusiawi, matang, dan reflektif. Cinta tidak lagi digambarkan sebagai gairah instan, melainkan sebagai proses penyembuhan trauma duka dan penghormatan terhadap batasan diri.
