Abstract
This research is motivated by the increasing issue of mental health in modern society, which places self-acceptance as a fundamental element in the psychological balance of individuals. The focus of this research is to analyze the lyrics of the song "Diri" by Tulus, a work in the pop ballad music genre that is rich in reflective messages. The purpose of this study is to uncover how the construction of the meaning of self-acceptance is constructed through the structure of linguistic signs in the lyrics of the song, as well as how the lyrics function as a medium of intrapersonal communication. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a Ferdinand de Saussure semiotic analysis approach. This theory dissects signs through the relationship between signifiers and signifiers, and reviews the relationship of elements through syntagmatic and paradigmatic relationships. The primary data in this study is the lyric text of the song "Diri", while the secondary data is obtained through literature studies and relevant related documents. The results of the study show that the meaning of self-acceptance in the song "Diri" is systematically constructed through a progressive (syntagmatic) sequence of lyrics, starting from the phase of acknowledging the wound to the phase of selfforgiveness. Paradigmatically speaking, the choice of empathic diction and the use of imperative verbs such as "whisper" create an atmosphere of therapeutic communication that encourages self-affirmation. The interaction between langue and parole produces a symbolic message that allows the listener to engage in constructive internal dialogue, so that the song goes beyond its function as a musical work of art and acts as an effective semiotic tool in facilitating the process of inner healing (self-healing)). This study recommends the use of musical works as a means of mental health education and suggests further research to explore audience reception to enrich the perspective of meaning from the listener's side. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh meningkatnya isu kesehatan mental di masyarakat modern, yang menempatkan penerimaan diri (self-acceptance) sebagai elemen fundamental dalam keseimbangan psikologis individu. Fokus penelitian ini adalah menganalisis lirik lagu “Diri” karya Tulus, sebuah karya dalam genre musik balada pop yang kaya akan pesan reflektif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap bagaimana konstruksi makna penerimaan diri dibangun melalui struktur tanda linguistik dalam lirik lagu tersebut, serta bagaimana lirik berfungsi sebagai medium komunikasi intrapersonal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. Teori ini membedah tanda melalui hubungan antara penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified), serta meninjau keterkaitan elemen melalui relasi sintagmatik dan paradigmatik. Data primer dalam penelitian ini adalah teks lirik lagu “Diri”, sementara data sekunder diperoleh melalui studi pustaka dan dokumen terkait yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna penerimaan diri dalam lagu “Diri” dikonstruksi secara sistematis melalui urutan lirik yang progresif (sintagmatik), mulai dari fase pengakuan atas luka hingga fase pemaafan diri. Secara paradigmatik, pemilihan diksi yang empatik dan penggunaan kata kerja imperatif seperti “bisikkanlah” menciptakan suasana komunikasi terapeutik yang mendorong afirmasi diri. Interaksi antara langue dan parole menghasilkan pesan simbolik yang memungkinkan pendengar melakukan dialog internal yang konstruktif, sehingga lagu ini melampaui fungsinya sebagai karya seni musikal dan berperan sebagai alat semiotik yang efektif dalam memfasilitasi proses penyembuhan batin (self-healing). Penelitian ini merekomendasikan penggunaan karya musik sebagai sarana edukasi kesehatan mental dan menyarankan penelitian selanjutnya untuk mengeksplorasi resepsi audiens guna memperkaya perspektif pemaknaan dari sisi pendengar.
