Abstract

This study aims to analyze audience reception of the "inner child" concept presented in Episode 3: "Inner child Siapanya Last Child?" of Lah Podcast!? on Spotify, and to identify audience meaning-making positions regarding the selfhealing messages constructed within new media. The primary variable studied is the audience's interpretation of the inner child as a representation of childhood experiences influencing adult behavior, analyzed through the Active Audience approach. This research employs a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative descriptive method utilizing Stuart Hall’s Reception Analysis (Encoding/Decoding). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight young adult informants selected using Purposive Sampling techniques based on their podcast listening habits. The results indicate significant variations in meaning-making positions: two informants occupied the Dominant-Hegemonic position, fully accepting the inner child concept and the suggested healing methods as relevant truths; four informants adopted a Negotiated position, accepting the idea of self-reflection but modifying its application by arguing that current socio-economic realities are more influential than the past; and two informants held an Oppositional position, rejecting the narrative as an over-generalization that undermines individual agency. The study concludes that psychological messages in podcasts are not received uniformly but are negotiated through the filter of each audience's childhood experiences and psychological background, proving that the host's humorous delivery style aids message accessibility but does not guarantee substantial agreement from a critical audience. Keywords: inner child, reception analysis, audience meaning, Podcast, selfacceptance.
