Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between loneliness and the perception of AI chatbot companionship among Generation Z in Jakarta. The increasing use of AI chatbots as a medium of interaction makes it relevant to study in the context of the loneliness experienced by users. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Measurements were taken using 25 items from the chatbot as social companionship measurement tool and 20 items from the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3) measurement tool on 205 respondents selected using accidental sampling. Data were processed using SPSS version 27 software with Spearman's correlation test. A positive correlation was found in the five dimensions of chatbots as social companionship with loneliness, which are as follows: Social Health (r = 0.292, p = <.001), Experience (r = 0.196, p = 0.005), Consciousness (r = 0.199, p = 0.004), Agency (r = 0.173, p = 0.013), and Human Likeness (r = 0.319, p = <0.001). These findings confirm that Generation Z with higher levels of loneliness tend to view AI chatbots as a more meaningful form of friendship. AI chatbot companionship is not only seen as something functional, but also as a medium that can provide social interaction experiences and a sense of presence similar to that of humans. Keyword: Loneliness, Perception, AI chatbot, Companionship Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara loneliness dan persespi penggunaan AI chatbot companionship pada Generasi Z Di Jakarta. Meningkatnya penggunaan AI chatbot sebagai media interaksi menjadikannya relevan untuk diteliti dalam konteks pengalaman kesepian penggunanya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan 25 item pernyataan oleh alat ukur chatbot as social companionship dan 20 item pernyataan dengan alat ukur UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3) pada 205 respoden yang dipilih dengan metode accidental sampling. Data diolah mengggunakan software SPSS versi 27 dengan uji korelasi spearman. Ditemukan korelasi dengan arah positif pada ke lima dimensi chatbot as social companionship dengan loneliness, yaitu sebagai berikut Social Health (r = 0.292, p = <.001), Experience (r = 0.196, p = 0.005), Consciousnesss (r = 0.199, p = 0.004), Agency (r = 0.173, p = 0.013), dan Human Likeness (r = 0.319, p = <0.001). Temuan ini mengonfirmasi bahwa Generasi Z dengan tingkat kesepian yang lebih tinggi cenderung memandang AI chatbot sebagai bentuk persahabatan yang lebih bermakna. AI chatbot companionship tidak hanya dipandang sebagai sesuatu hal atau alat yang fungsional, tetapi juga sebagai media yang mempu memberikan pengalaman interaksi sosial dan rasa kehadiran yang mirip dengan manusia.
