Abstract

This study aims to reveal the meanings constructed by active followers of the Instagram account @najwashihab and how these meanings contribute to the formation of their selfidentity. The research variables include followers’ interpretation of Najwa Shihab’s content, social media engagement, and the process of self-identity construction. The study involved 10 informants aged 21–30 years, selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. A qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach was applied. Data analysis was conducted inductively through data reduction, categorization, presentation, and verification using triangulation of sources, data, and methods. The findings show that followers interpret Najwa Shihab’s content as representing educational, critical, inspirational, and reflective values. Engagement on Instagram not only serves as a form of interaction but also functions as a process of self-reflection and identity construction. The conclusion indicates that Instagram functions as a symbolic space where followers build their self-identity through the internalization of values and dynamic digital interactions. Keywords: self-identity, Instagram, engagement, meaning construction, Najwa Shihab Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna yang dikonstruksi oleh followers aktif akun Instagram @najwashihab serta bagaimana makna tersebut berperan dalam pembentukan identitas diri mereka. Variabel yang diteliti meliputi pemaknaan terhadap konten Najwa Shihab, engagement di media sosial, dan proses pembentukan identitas diri. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 10 informan berusia 21–30 tahun yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling dan snowball sampling. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara induktif melalui reduksi data, kategorisasi, penyajian, dan verifikasi menggunakan triangulasi sumber, data, dan metode. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa followers memaknai konten Najwa Shihab sebagai representasi nilai edukatif, kritis, inspiratif, dan reflektif. Engagement di Instagram tidak hanya menjadi bentuk interaksi, tetapi juga berfungsi sebagai proses refleksi diri dan konstruksi identitas. Kesimpulannya, Instagram berperan sebagai ruang simbolik tempat followers membangun identitas diri melalui internalisasi nilai dan interaksi digital yang berlangsung secara dinamis.
