Abstract
Brain rot, a term chosen as Oxford’s Word of the Year 2024, refers to mental deterioration caused by excessive consumption of online content. This phenomenon is prevalent among high school students, who are in a critical phase of identity formation, cognitive development, and learning habits. This design project aims to create the short film Terjebak Layar (Trapped by the Screen) as a digital literacy campaign tool to prevent brain rot among high school students. Additionally, it seeks to design a visual presentation that is simple yet effective, so the message can be well received by young audiences.The film was distributed through Instagram and YouTube and was also screened in a classroom at SMA Budi Mulia and during a community exhibition. Student responses were collected through an online questionnaire, while YouTube viewing data was used to evaluate the film’s reach and resonance.The results showed that the majority of students understood the film’s message and felt motivated to manage their digital media use more wisely. However, they also suggested further character development and a sharper storyline to enhance the film's educational impact. Terjebak Layar proved effective in raising awareness of digital literacy and provided a strong foundation for future creative works. Brain rot, istilah yang dipilih sebagai Oxford’s Word of the Year 2024, mengacu pada kemunduran mental akibat konsumsi konten daring berlebihan. Fenomena ini banyak ditemui di kalangan remaja SMA, yang sedang berada pada fase penting pembentukan identitas, pola pikir, dan kebiasaan belajar. Perancangan ini bertujuan menciptakan film pendek Terjebak Layar sebagai sarana kampanye literasi digital untuk mencegah brain rot di kalangan siswa SMA. Selain itu, perancangan ini berusaha merancang penyajian visual yang sederhana namun efektif agar pesan dapat terserap dengan baik oleh penonton muda.Film ini didistribusikan melalui Instagram dan YouTube, serta diuji coba dengan menayangkannya di kelas SMA Budi Mulia dan dalam pameran komunitas. Tanggapan siswa diukur melalui kuesioner daring, sementara data penayangan YouTube digunakan untuk mengevaluasi seberapa luas jangkauan dan resonansi film.Hasil menunjukkan mayoritas siswa memahami pesan film dan merasa termotivasi untuk mengelola penggunaan media digital secara lebih bijak. Meskipun begitu, mereka juga mengusulkan pendalaman karakter dan penajaman alur cerita agar dampak edukatif menjadi lebih kuat. Terjebak Layar terbukti efektif dalam membangkitkan kesadaran literasi digital dan memberikan fondasi yang kokoh untuk pengembangan karya berikutnya.
