Abstract
Instagram social media is often used as a place for someone to spread information, education or entertainment. One of them is a parenting account that disseminates information about parenting patterns. Many millennial mothers follow parenting accounts and pay attention to the content on parenting accounts with certain backgrounds. This study aims to determine the motives of millennial mothers following parenting accounts on Instagram social media. The theory of motives from Alfred Schuzt is divided into 2, namely in order to motive and because of motive, which in order to motive explains the motive for the future, namely actions taken by someone because of a certain purpose. Because of motive is a motive that refers to the past where the actions taken by a person occur because of past experiences. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological research methods. The research subjects are five people who are Millennials who actively use Instagram with qualifications to follow one of the parenting accounts that the researchers reference, namely @talkparenting, @parentalk.id, and @theasianparent_id. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews. The results of the research conducted by the researcher in the interview session to the 5 informants showed that there were 2 motives in taking actions to follow the parenting account, there were 4 motives from (in order to motive), namely; (1) The motive for seeking information, (2) The motive for following the times, (3) Motives to educate and build children's behavior patterns, (4) Motives to change the behavior patterns of parents and children. And 3 motives (because of motive), namely; (1) Motive due to past trauma, (2) Motive due to the informant's experience in making friends, (3) Motive to see the surrounding environment. Keywords: Phenomenological Studies, Motives, Symbolic Interaction, Communication Psychology, Millennials Mother, following, Parenting Accounts, Instagram Media sosial instagram seringkali dijadikan sebuah wadah bagi seseorang menyebarkan informasi, edukasi atau hiburan. Salah satunya yaitu akun parenting yang menyebarkan informasi mengenai pola pengasuhan anak. Banyak dari ibu millennials yang mengikuti akun parenting dan memperhatikan konten konten di akun parenting dengan latar belakang tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui motif dari ibu millennials mengikuti akun parenting di media sosial instagram. Teori Motif dari Alfred Schuzt terbagi menjadi 2 yaitu in order to motive dan because of motive yang mana in order to motive menjelaskan motif akan masa depan yaitu tindakan yang dilakukan seseorang karena adanya tujuan tertentu. Because of motive adalah motif yang merujuk pada masa lalu dimana tindakan yang dilakukan seseorang terjadi karena adanya pengalaman masa lalu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian fenomenologi. Subjek penelitian berjumlah lima orang yang merupakan Ibu Millennials yang aktif menggukan instagram dengan kualifikasi mengikuti salah satu akun parenting yang peneliti jadi acuan yaitu @talkparenting, @parentalk.id, dan @theasianparent_id. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalalam. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti dalam sesi wawancara kepada ke 5 informan menunjukan bahwa terdapat 2 motive dalam melakukan tindakan mengikuti akun parenting, terdapat 4 motif dari (in order to motive) yaitu;(1) Motif untuk mencari informasi, (2) Motif untuk mengikuti perkembangan zaman, (3) Motif untuk mendidik dan membangun pola perilaku anak, (4)Motif untuk merubah pola perilaku orangtua dan anak. Dan 3 motif dari (because of motive) yaitu; (1) Motif karena Trauma Masa lalu, (2) Motif karena pengalaman informan dalam berteman, (3) Motif melihat lingkungan sekitar.
