Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of interpersonal communication as an approach in guidance and counseling for selecting study programs at Mercu Buana University for 12th-grade students at SMKN 60 Jakarta. Effective interpersonal communication between guidance counselors (BK) and students plays a crucial role in helping students understand their potential and interests, guiding them in making appropriate decisions regarding their choice of study programs in higher education. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, involving indepth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results indicate that interpersonal communication conducted by BK teachers can enhance students' self-awareness, reduce anxiety in the decision-making process, and provide positive encouragement to achieve their academic goals. Furthermore, the supportive interactions and empathy shown by BK teachers significantly contribute to increasing students' confidence in choosing study programs that align with their interests and talents. This study concludes that the interpersonal communication approach in guidance and counseling is highly effective in assisting 12th-grade students at SMKN 60 Jakarta in selecting study programs at Mercu Buana University. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas komunikasi interpersonal sebagai pendekatan dalam bimbingan dan konseling untuk pemilihan program studi di Universitas Mercu Buana bagi siswa kelas 12 di SMKN 60 Jakarta. Komunikasi interpersonal yang efektif antara konselor bimbingan (BK) dan siswa berperan penting dalam membantu siswa memahami potensi dan minatnya, membimbing mereka dalam membuat keputusan yang tepat terkait pilihan program studi di pendidikan tinggi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, melibatkan wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi interpersonal yang dilakukan oleh guru BK dapat meningkatkan kesadaran diri siswa, mengurangi kecemasan dalam proses pengambilan keputusan, dan memberikan dorongan positif untuk mencapai tujuan akademisnya. Lebih lanjut, interaksi yang mendukung dan empati yang ditunjukkan oleh guru BK berkontribusi secara signifikan dalam meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam memilih program studi yang sesuai dengan minat dan bakatnya. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendekatan komunikasi interpersonal dalam bimbingan dan konseling sangat efektif dalam membantu siswa kelas 12 di SMKN 60 Jakarta dalam memilih program studi di Universitas Mercu Buana.
