Abstract
The film Oppenheimer (2023) shows the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, from when he was a student and graduated from Harvard, Cambridge, and Goettingen, until he was already known as the father of atomic bombs around the world. This film represents the moral dilemma that Oppenheimer felt in his entire life. This study uses Ferdinand de Saussure's Semiotic analysis methodology with a descriptive qualitative approach, and the paradigm used is the Constructivism paradigm. The analysis will be carried out according to Ferdinand de Saussure's Semiotic Analysis technique, separating the scenes to be analyzed and using signifiers and signified to analyze the signs in the scene. The results of the study show that the Oppenheimer (2023) film represents two types of moral dilemmas experienced by Oppenheimer, Obligation and Self-Inflicted. This representation is done using audiovisual aspects such as the sound of footsteps, vibrating backgrounds, and very bright light. Robert Oppenheimer, Bapak Bom Atom, dari saat ia masih mahasiswa dan lulus di Harvard, Cambridge, dan Goettingen, Hingga dia sudah dikenal sebagai bapak dari bom atom di seluruh dunia. Film ini merepresentasikan dilema moral yang dirasakan oleh Oppenheimer dalam keseluruhan hidupnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi analisis Semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dan paradigma yang digunakan adalah paradigma Konstruktivisme. Analisa akan dilakukan sesuai dengan teknik Analisa Semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure, memisahkan scene-scene yang ingin dianalisa dan gunakan signifier dan signified untuk menganalisa tanda-tanda dalam scene. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa film Oppenheimer (2023) merepresentasikan dua tipe dilema moral yang dialami oleh Oppenheimer, Obligation dan Self-Inflicted. Representasi ini dilakukan menggunakan aspek audiovisual seperti suara hentakan kaki, latar belakang bergetar, dan cahaya yang sangat terang.
