Abstract

The This research aims to determine the trend of identity manipulation through communication messages on social media. This is worth studying theoretically considering the progress of communication and information technology regarding its position and implications in people's lives. This is caused by problems such as dependence on media use, fantasy and the hope of having a good and extraordinary image in the eyes of society. Therefore, scientific proof is needed for accurate information that can be accounted for and to avoid statements that are fictitious. The research method used is case study research with a constructivist paradigm. Data collection techniques through in-depth interviews. Data analysis techniques include reducing data, presenting data and concluding data using data validation techniques through source triangulation. The research findings indicate that various forms of identity manipulation were found through communication messages on social media, including manipulation of job identities, physical appearances, utilization of social environments, as well as photos and videos. These manipulations are done with the aim of creating desired images, often not in alignment with reality. Keywords: Manipulation, Self Identitiy, Communication, Social Media Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui trend manipulasi identitas melalui pesan – pesan Komunikasi di Media Sosial. Hal ini patut dikaji secara teoritis melihat kemajuan teknologi komunikasi dan informasi berkenaan dengan kedudukan dan implikasinya dalam kehidupan masyarakat. Hal ini disebabkan karena masalah-masalah seperti ketergantungan pada penggunaan media, fantasi dan harapan untuk memiliki citra yang baik dan luar biasa di mata masyarakat. Oleh sebab itu, pembuktian secara ilmiah diperlukan untuk keakuratan informasi yang bisa dipertanggungjawabkan serta menjauhi pernyataan yang bersifat rekaan. Paradigma yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah paradigma konstruktivisme dengan metode penelitian studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi non partisipan dan studi pustaka. Teknik Analisa data dengan mereduksi data, menyajikan data dan menyimpulkan data dengan Teknik validasi data melalui Triangulasi Sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan bentuk manipulasi identitas melalui pesan-pesan komunikasi di media sosial meliputi manipulasi pekerjaan, penampilan fisik, penggunaan lingkungan sosial, serta foto dan video. Manipulasi ini dilakukan dengan tujuan menciptakan citra yang diinginkan, seringkali tidak selaras dengan realitas. Kata Kunci: Manipulasi, Identitas Diri, Komunikasi, Sosial Media
