Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between alexithymia and social media addiction of early adult whisper application users in Jakarta. In this study using non-probability sampling technique, namely accidental sampling with a total of 138 respondents obtained in this study. The measuring instruments used in this study are, for alexithymia using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale - 20 (TAS-20) measuring instrument developed by Taylor, Bagby & Parker (1993) which consists of 20 items while for social media addiction using the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) measuring instrument compiled by Andreassen & Griffiths (2017) and modified by Islami (2020) of 18 items. This study used IBM SPSS Statistics 23 software. This study used the Pearson product moment correlation test to see the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study obtained a correlation coefficient value of 0.590 with a sig value of 0.000 <0.01 so that this value indicates that the two variables have a positive relationship. The results of data analysis in this study indicate that early adult users of the whisper application in Jakarta have a level of alexithymia and social media addiction that is in the moderate category. Keywords: Alexithymia, Social Media Addiction, Social Media, Whisper App Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan alexithymia dengan kecanduan media sosial pengguna aplikasi whisper dewasa awal di Jakarta. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik non-probability sampling yaitu accidental sampling dengan total responden yang didapat dalam penelitian ini adalah 138 orang. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu, untuk alexithymia menggunakan alat ukur Toronto Alexithymia Scale – 20 (TAS-20) yang dikembangkan oleh Taylor dkk. (1993) yang terdiri dari 20 item sedangkan untuk kecanduan media sosial menggunakan alat ukur Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) yang disusun oleh Andreassen dan Griffiths (2017) dan dimodifikasi oleh Islami (2020) sejumlah 18 item. Penelitian ini menggunakan software IBM SPSS Statistics 23. Penelitian ini menggunakan uji korelasi pearson product moment untuk melihat hubungan antara kedua variabel. Hasil penelitian didapatkan hasil nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0.590 dengan nilai sig 0.000 < 0.01 sehingga nilai tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kedua variabel memiliki hubungan yang positif. Hasil analisa data dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dewasa awal pengguna aplikasi whisper di Jakarta memiliki tingkat alexithymia dan kecanduan media sosial yang berada dalam kategori sedang.
