Abstract

A discussion of gender is a discussion of how the characteristics associated with men and women are constructed in the reality of social and cultural life. Like a woman, she is compared to being gentle, polite, emotional, and also motherly. Meanwhile, men are compared with being firm, strong, rational, and powerful. Because gender is not a natural thing, the characteristics of these traits can be exchanged. Based on the background above, researchers want to see a picture that is relevant to the condition of men today. This research uses John Fiske's semiotics because the researcher wants to represent gender in the film Cek Toko Sebelah. From the results of the research, the author will analyze and observe the scenes in the film Cek Toko Sebelah through John Fiske's semiotic analysis to determine the scenes that contain elements of gender representation in the film using "The Codes of Television," according to John Fiske in the data presentation process. To process and analyze the research results of the film "Cek Toko Sebelah," the researcher analyzes and describes it using John Fiske's semiotic analysis through "The Codes of Television," which has three aspects, namely the reality level, representation level, and ideology level, to analyze the scenes in the film through signs displayed. The level of reality in the film "Cek Toko Sebelah" is shown through the appearance shown, such as the scenes and clothes worn by the character Naryo. Apart from that, there are body movements, make-up, behavior, and expressions like a woman shown by Naryo, which shows the presence of elements of character representation. Pembahasan tentang gender merupakan pembahasan mengenai bagaimana sifat yang disandingkan pada laki-laki maupun perempuan dikonstruksikan dalam realitas kehidupan sosial maupun kultural. Seperti perempuan disandingkan dengan sifat lemah lembut, sopan santun, emosional dan juga keibuan. Sedangkan laki-laki disandingkan dengan sifat tegas, kuat rasional dan juga perkasa. Karena gender bukan merupakan hal yang alamiah, maka ciri dari sifat itu dapat dipertukarkan. Berdasarkan latar belakang diatas, peneliti ingin melihat gambaran yang relevan dengan kondisi laki-laki pada masa kini. Penelitian ini menggunakan semiotika John Fiske, hal ini dikarenakan peneliti ingin merepresentasikan gender dalam film Cek Toko Sebelah tersebut. Dari hasil penelitian penulis akan menganalisa dan mengamati adegan-adegan yang terdapat dalam film Cek Toko Sebelah melalui analisis semiotika John Fiske untuk menentukan scene-scene yang terdapat unsur Representasi Gender dalam film tersebut menggunakan “The Codes of Television” menurut John Fiske dalam proses penyajian data untuk mengolah dan menganalisa dari hasil penelitianFilm “Cek Toko Sebelah” ini peneliti analisis dan deskripsikan menggunakan analisis semiotika John Fiske melalui “The Codes of Television” yang memiliki tiga aspek didalamnya yaitu Level Realitas, Level Representasi dan Level Ideologi untuk menganalisis adegan didalam film tersebut melalui tanda-tanda yang ditampilkan. Level Realitas dalam film “Cek Toko Sebelah” ini ditunjukan melalui penampilan yang ditampilkan seperti adegan dan pakaian yang digunakan oleh tokoh Naryo, selain itu terdapat gerak tubuh, make up, perilaku dan ekspresi layaknya seorang wanita yang ditunjukan oleh Naryo yang menunjukan adanya unsur representasi tokoh Pria gemulai pada film tersebut.
