Abstract
Soft masculinity is a new concept developed in South Korea to express a softer side without losing one’s masculinity. Soft maculinity is a man with a feminime personality, now a man with this personality no longer hesitate to show his feminime side, such as using beauty products like a woman. A qualitative approach is used in this study, the purpose of which is to analyze and describe a phenomenon or event. And using Stuart Hall’s representation theory, namely the representation of thought and language. The abstract concepts in our head must be translated into a language that is easy for everyone to understand. How the depiction ofsoft masculinity in the music video for NCT 127 "Touch" attracts attention to be studied. By using the constructivism paradigm methodology with Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic method, this study intends to find out how a music video is represented in which there are signs on wardrobe, background setting, choreo/dance, song lyrics and depiction of soft-masculinity. Based on the research results, the music video for NCT 127 “Touch” reveals several characteristics of soft masculinity, including thender charisma, purity, and politeness through facial expressions, background, wardrobe, make up in the scene. Soft masculinity adalah konsep baru yang berkembang di Korea Selatan untuk mengekspresikan sisi lembut tanpa merasa terancam akan kehilangan maskulinitas dalam diri orang tersebut. Soft masculinity merupakan laki-laki yang memiliki kepribadian feminim, kini laki-laki yang memilki kepribadian tersebut sudah tidak ragu lagi untuk menampilkan sisi feminim nya seperti memakai produk-produk kecantikan layaknya seperti seorang perempuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan suatu fenomena atau peristiwa secara individu maupun kelompok. Dan menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall yaitu representasi pikiran dan bahasa. Konsep yang abstrak dalam kepala kita harus diterjemahkan menggunakan bahasa yang lazim mudah dimengerti. Kedua konsep tersebut saling berkaitan satu sama lain. Bagaimana penggambaran soft masculinity dalam video musik NCT 127 “Touch” ini menarik perhatian untuk diteliti. Dengan menggunakan metodelogi paradigma kontruktivisme dengan metode semiotika Charles Sanders Pierce, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui bagaimana representasi sebuah video musik yang didalamnya terdapat tanda-tanda pada wardrobe, latar setting, koreo/tarian, lirik lagu serta pengambilan gambaran mengenai soft-masculinity. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa video musik NCT 127 “Touch” mempresentasikan beberapa karakteristik soft masculinity antara lain thender charisma, politeness, dan purity melalui penggambaran ekspresi wajah, latar setting, wardrobe, make up dalam cuplikan scene.
