Abstract

Teenagers can easily access various kinds of varied and positive video content, one of which is educational content that discusses public speaking. In addition, various public speaking educational content that is on the TikTok platform can be easily accessed by every audience, especially teenagers, one of which is the @daffaspeaks account. This study aims to determine the interpretation of young audiences in interpreting public speaking educational content found on the TikTok @daffaspeaks account. The theory used is Stuart Hall's Encoding-Decoding Theory about the audience's meaning of public speaking educational content @daffaspeaks, where this theory emphasizes the role of the audience in receiving messages based on three categories of positions, namely dominant positions, negotiating positions, and oppositional positions. This study uses a qualitative approach with reception analysis methods and uses a constructivist paradigm. Data collection techniques were carried out using focus group discussions (FGD) involving seven youth informants with an age range of 18 to 22 years. The results of the study stated that each informant had a different meaning according to their background and seeing public speaking educational content on the @daffaspeaks TikTok account could provide positive educational messages. Informants in dominant positions can fully accept the educational message conveyed in @daffaspeaks public speaking content because this content can provide useful knowledge and teach about public speaking to be applied in everyday life. Informants in the negotiating position considered that the content could provide information but had things that were not liked in the structure of the public speaking challenge content related to the duration used too quickly. In this study, there were no informants in oppositional positions. Keywords: audience reception, teenagers, tiktok, public speaking. Para remaja dapat dengan mudah mengakses berbagai macam konten video yang bervariatif dan positif, salah satunya konten edukasi yang membahas seputar public speaking. Selain itu berbagai konten edukasi public speaking yang berada di platform TikTok dapat dengan mudah diakses oleh setiap khalayak terutama remaja, salah satunya adalah akun @daffaspeaks. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui interpretasi khalayak remaja dalam memaknai konten edukasi public speaking yang terdapat pada akun TikTok @daffaspeaks. Teori yang digunakan adalah Teori Encoding-Decoding Stuart Hall tentang pemaknaan khalayak terhadap konten edukasi public speaking @daffaspeaks, dimana teori ini menekankan pada peran khalayak dalam menerima pesan berdasarkan pada kategori tiga posisi yaitu posisi dominan, posisi negosiasi, dan posisi oposisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis resepsi dan menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan menggunakan focus group discussion (FGD) yang melibatkan tujuh informan khalayak remaja dengan rentan usia 18 sampai 22 tahun. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa setiap informan memiliki pemaknaan yang berbeda sesuai dengan latar belakang yang dimiliki dan melihat konten edukasi public speaking pada akun TikTok @daffaspeaks dapat memberikan pesan edukasi yang positif. Informan pada posisi dominan dapat seutuhnya menerima pesan edukasi yang disampaikan pada konten public speaking @daffaspeaks karena konten tersebut dapat memberikan ilmu bermanfaat dan mengajari seputar public speaking untuk diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Informan pada posisi negosiasi menganggap bahwa konten tersebut dapat memberikan informasi akan tetapi memiliki hal yang kurang disukai pada struktur konten public speaking challenge terkait durasi yang digunakan terlalu cepat. Dalam penelitian ini tidak ditemukan informan pada posisi oposisi. Kata kunci: resepsi khalayak, remaja, tiktok, public speaking.
