Abstract
A developed and modern city is a city that has good public transportation, so it requires a careful design and urban planning to achieve it. But unfortunately manycities in Indonesia were built based on roads, so private vehicles, both motorbikesand cars, became the main mode of transportation used by the citizens of the city. This private vehicle has become one of the biggest contributors to air pollutionand traffic congestion in major cities of Indonesia. This air pollution andcongestion, both directly and indirectly, will affect the quality of life of thecitizens of the city, which makes the big city less comfortable to live in. Inaddition, with the phenomenon of global climate change that occurs very quicklyand has a very broad impact, then we need to start reducing private vehicles. Thiswill be supported by city residents if the available public transportation can meet the needs of citizens, as well as clean, safe, and comfortable. The use of publictransportation can also reduce congestion which is one of the serious problems inall major cities in the world. TOD or Transit Oriented Development can be asolution to the problem of climate change, congestion and to improve the qualityof life of the citizens of the city. TOD is a combination of regional planning, urban revitalization, renewal of suburban areas, and a pedestrian-friendlyenvironment, which can reduce the need to drive with private vehicles because of the integrated modes of transportation. Kota maju dan modern merupakan kota yang memiliki transportasi publikyang baik, untuk itu diperlukan sebuah desain dan perencanaan kota yang matanguntuk mencapainya. Namun sayangnya banyak kota-kota di Indonesia yangdibangun berbasis jalan raya, sehingga kendaraan pribadi baik motor maupunmobil menjadi moda transportasi utama yang digunakan oleh warga kotanya. Kendaraan pribadi ini pun menjadi salah satu penyumbang terbesar polusi udaradan kemacetan di kota-kota besar Indonesia. Polusi udara dan kemacetan ini, baiksecara langsung maupun tidak langsung akan mempengaruhi kualitas hidup wargakotanya, yang membuat kota besar tersebut menjadi kurang nyaman untukditinggali. Selain itu, dengan adanya fenomena perubahan iklim global yang terjadi dengan sangat cepat dan memiliki dampak yang sangat luas, maka kita perluuntuk mulai mengurangi kendaraan pribadi. Hal tersebut akan didukung olehwarga kota apabila transportasi publik yang tersedia dapat memenuhi kebutuhanwarga, serta bersih, aman, dan nyaman. Penggunaan transportasi publik ini jugadapat mengurangi kemacetan yang merupakan salah satu masalah serius di seluruh kota besar di dunia. TOD atau Transit Oriented Development dapat menjadi solusi untukmasalah perubahan iklim, kemacetan maupun untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidupwarga kotanya. TOD adalah kombinasi dari perencanaan regional, revitalisasi perkotaan, pembaruan area pinggiran kota, dan lingkungan yang ramah pejalankaki, yang dapat mengurangi kebutuhan berkendara dengan kendaraan pribadi karena adanya moda transportasi yang terintegrasi.
