Abstract

This thesis is a study on the construction of identities for IT freelancers in Indonesia. IT (Information Technology) is a freelance social identity as it relates to the job or profession, we are looking for any social identity then we'll see how the role / activities of all IT-ness in the social environment. How to build an identity, this is called the construction of identities that are affiliated with the profession as a freelance IT. IT freelance identities attached with independence, professionalism, creativity, and flexibility. They are well aware that the biggest investment an IT freelancer is yourself. Through this understanding, an IT freelancer is an independent profession and continue to upgrade themselves so as not to miss the information and capabilities. In this study found some IT freelance self-concept, namely beginner, worker and leader. Where the self-concept "Beginner" is based on the motif just for the experience, as a medium of learning, making friends, or know where the abilities to work as an IT freelancer. The concept of self "Worker" is the level of professional self-concept has been supported by the experience, knowledge and ability to work as an IT freelancer. The concept of self "Leader" is the level of self-concept is capable of managing himself and able to lead the other freelancers to collaborate become a team. Keywords: IT freelance, personal culture, personal identity, personal behavior, personal performance, IT freelancers identity, beginner, worker, leader Tesis ini merupakan penelitian mengenai konstruksi identitas untuk IT freelancer yang ada di Indonesia. IT freelance merupakan identitas sosial karena terkait dengan pekerjaan atau profesi, setiap kita mencari identitas sosial maka kita akan melihat bagaimana perannya / aktivitas ke-IT-annya di dalam lingkungan sosial. Bagaimana cara membangun identitas, inilah yang disebut dengan konstruksi identitas yang berafiliasi dengan profesi sebagai IT freelance. IT freelance merupakan identitas yang melekat dengan kemandirian, profesionalitas, kreatifitas, dan fleksibilitas. Mereka sangat menyadari bahwa investasi terbesar seorang IT freelancer adalah diri sendiri. Melalui pemahaman tersebut, seorang IT freelancer merupakan profesi yang mandiri dan terus meng-upgrade diri agar tidak ketinggalan informasi maupun kemampuan. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan beberapa konsep diri IT freelance yaitu beginner, worker & leader. Dimana konsep diri “Beginner” didasari dari motif hanya untuk mencari pengalaman, sebagai media belajar, mencari teman, atau mengetahui sampai dimana kemampuan dirinya bekerja sebagai IT Freelancer. Konsep diri “Worker” adalah tingkatan konsep diri yang sudah professional yang didukung oleh pengalaman, pengetahuan dan kemampuan bekerja sebagai IT Freelancer. Konsep diri “Leader” adalah tingkatan konsep diri yang mampu mengelola dirinya dan mampu memimpin freelancer lainnya untuk dapat berkolaborasi menjadi sebuah tim.
