Abstract

Fenomena yang diangkat menjadi objek penelitian adalah dinamika komunikasi antar budaya Indonesia dan Korea yang terjadi di perusahaan multinasional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dimensi model budaya Indonesia dan Korea di perusahaan multinasional melalui identifikasi permasalahan- permasalahan komunikasi yang timbul di level managerial Indonesia terhadap Korea, identifikasi tanggapan orang Korea, identifikasi solusi dan identifikasi saran solusi manajemen atas permasalahan komunikasi tersebut untuk stabilitas perusahaan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan model observasi dan wawancara pada level manajemen perusahaan multinasional. Fokus pada level manajemen dilakukan untuk mencari akar permasalahan komunikasi, karena level ini pada level ini lah komunikasi antar budaya lebih sering terjadi. Teori komunikasi antar budaya Hall, Hofstede, Gudykunst & Kim dan Ting-Toomey digunakan untuk memperdalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Indonesia dan Korea memiliki kesamaan kecendrungan dalam berkomunikasi, yaitu menggunakan bahasa tidak langsung dan sebisa mungkin mencari harmoni. Hal ini berpotensi menjadi masalah dalam organisasi karena permasalahan cenderung baru diketahui setelah besar. Karena itu level managerial dalam perusaaan multinasional perlu memiliki kompetensi komunikasi antar budaya, dan perusahaan multinasional perlu memiliki fungsi yang menjadi jembatan komunikasi antar budaya. Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Antar Budaya, Korea, Indonesia, Perusahaan Multinasional, manajerial The phenomenon which becomes the object of the research is the dynamic of cross-cultural communication that happened at Multinational Company. This research intent to find the effective model of cross cultural communication at Multinational Company between Indonesia and Korea through communication problem identification of Indonesian managerial level to Korean, Korean feedback, identification of solution and suggestion of the communication problem for the company sustainability. The research has been done through observation and interview to managerial level of a multinational company. The focus on managerial level is taken with consideration that it is the level with high frequent of cross cultural communication. Hall, Hofstede, Gudykunst & Kim and Ting – Toomey cross cultural communication theory is used to help deepen the research. The result of the research shown that Indonesian and Korean has many similarity at culture that impact to the way they communicate, that is using indirect communication and keep the harmony of group. This culture makes the communication problem is not easy to find until its blow up and harm the company. So that the managerial level of multinational company needs to have cross cultural communication competency and the company needs to have a function as a bridge of the cross cultural communication.
