Abstract

The interaction space and information reception of the Deaf on social media platforms mean there are friendly aspects of the Deaf to inclusiveness, through the accessibility that available on social media as a form of equality, equal communication opportunities with the dominant hearing individuals. The focus of this research is to find out social media as a new space/platform for the Deaf to carry out various communication activities. This type of research is descriptive with qualitative approach. This study aims to find out the communication process which occurs in social media as a benefit for the Deaf in various matter or motive which was measured by the theories of communication media, new media. In this research, the Deaf activists which is active on social media that focuses on advocacy was chosen to be the key informant, and the other informant were the Deaf with different background that are also active on social media. The results of this study proves that social media as a new space provider has become a tools that helps the Deaf in accomodating the need for updating information and reducing the gap between hearing individuals and the Deaf, including as a media for activism which aims to provide awareness about the Deaf and their rights. Keywords: Deaf, Social Media, Information, Interaction Ruang interaksi dan penerimaan informasi difabel Tuli pada platform di media sosial berarti adanya aspek-aspek ramah difabel Tuli hingga inklusivitas, melalui aksesibilitas yang tersedia di media sosial sebagai wujud kesetaraan, kesempatan berkomunikasi yang sama dengan orang-orang dominan dengar. Fokus pada penelitian ini yakni ingin mengetahui hal tersebut, sebagaimana dapat diungkapkan melalui deskripsi mengenai media sosial yang menjadi ruang baru bagi Tuli dalam melakukan berbagai aktivitas komunikasi. Tipe penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses komunikasi yang terjadi dalam media sosial atas manfaat yang diperoleh Tuli guna berbagai macam hal atau motif, yang diukur melalui teori-teori tentang media komunikasi, new media.. Pada penelitian ini, aktivis Tuli yang aktif di media sosial dengan fokus bidang advokasi ditetapkan sebagai key informan, dan informan lainnya merupakan teman Tuli dengan berbagai macam latar belakang, yang juga aktif di media sosial. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa media sosial sebagai penyedia ruang baru telah menjadi tools yang membantu Tuli dalam mengakomodir kebutuhan akan pembaharuan informasi hingga menjadi ruang yang mengurangi gap diantara orang dengar dengan orang Tuli, termasuk sebagai media yang menjadi sarana aktivisme dengan tujuan memberikan awareness tentang Tuli dan hak-haknya.
