Abstract

Paint manufacturing technology in Indonesia has developed so rapidly. The paint producers in Indonesia are competing to be able to produce paint that meets the desires of consumers, so that the paint production is favored by consumers and generates profits for the company. One of the paint manufacturers in Indonesia is PT. XYZ with its water-based lacquer products. In the midst of fierce competition, this product experienced a significant decline in sales in 2018. The results of the analysis of the marketing team of PT. XYZ showed that there were products from competitors who were more interested by some customers of PT. XYZ. In addition, the number of complaints received by PT. XYZ's water-based lacquer products also increased significantly in 2018. One of the strategies used by PT. XYZ is to develop this water-based lacquer product. In this research, the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used. In QFD phase 1 it is known that the "kepekatan bau" of a water-based lacquer product is the most necessary to be repaired and "Jenis Resin" is the technical requirement with the highest level of importance. In QFD stage 2 it is known that the most important Process Requirement is "mengatur kecepatan dan waktu untuk proses mixing/disperi". In QFD stage 3, the most important Quality Procedures are measuring Non-volatile Content. And in QFD stage 4, the most important Process Control Planning is "Melakukan Inspeksi QC Menyeluruh" Keywords: Quality Function Deployment, QFD, Product Development, Water-based lacquer Teknologi pembuatan cat di Indonesia sudah berkembang sedemikian pesatnya. Para produsen cat di Indonesia berlomba-lomba untuk dapat menghasilkan cat yang memenuhi keinginan para konsumen, sehingga cat produksinya digemari para konsumen dan menghasilkan keuntungan bagi perusahaan. Salah satu produsen cat di Indonesia adalah PT.XYZ dengan produk water-based lacquer-nya. Di tengah persaingan yang cukup ketat, produk ini mengalami penurunan penjualan cukup signifikan pada tahun 2018. Hasil analisa dari tim marketing PT.XYZ menunjukkan adanya produk dari competitor yang lebih diminati oleh beberapa customer PT.XYZ. Selain itu jumlah complain yang diterima oleh produk water-based lacquer milik PT.XYZ juga meningkat secara signifikan pada tahun 2018. Salah satu strategi yang digunakan oleh PT.XYZ adalah dengan mengembangkan produk water-based lacquer ini. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode Quality Function Deployment (QFD). Pada QFD tahap 1 ini diketahui bahwa “kepekatan bau” dari produk water-based lacquer adalah hal yang paling perlu untuk diperbaiki dan “jenis resin” adalah technical requirement dengan tingkat kepentingan tertinggi. Pada QFD tahap 2 diketahui Process Requirement terpenting adalah “mengatur kecepatan dan waktu untuk proses mixing/dispersi”. Pada QFD tahap 3, Quality Procedures yang terpenting adalah mengukur Non-volatile Content.
