Abstract
The theme of this research is the effect of television and new media exposure on political participation in the General Election 2019 in the border area of the Republic of Indonesia - the Democratic Republic of East Timor in Belu District, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Province. The paradigm of this research is the positivistic paradigm. The approach of this research is quantitative approach. The aim of this study is to asses the impact of expossure to television meda and new media on political participation in Belu Distric in the General Election 2019. Research conducted in April 2019 with 282 responden of adolence in Belu District. The independent variables examined in this study were exposure to television media (X1) and new media variables (X2), and dependent variables of political participation (Y). The theories used in this study are stimulus response theory as grand theory, magic bullet theory as middle theory, and political participation as applied theory. Based on regression analysis variables X1 an X2 have a positive effect on variable Y of 62,8%. The conclusion of this research that the media exposure has a positive effect on political participation in the border area of the Republic of Indonesia - the Democratic Republic of East Timor in Belu District. Key word: effect media, new media, political partisipation, presidential election Tema penelitian ini adalah pengaruh paparan televisi dan media baru terhadap partisipasi politik dalam Pemilihan Umum di wilayah perbatasan Republik Indonesia - Republik Demokratik Timor Leste tepatnya di Kabupaten Belu, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Paradigma penelitian ini adalah paradigma positivistik. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memverifikasi dan mengukur seberapa besar pengaruh terpaan media televisi dan new media (media baru) terhadap partisipasi politik pada Pemilihan Umum 2019 di Kabupaten Belu, NTT. Penelitian dilakukan pada April 2019 dengan 282 responden remaja di Kabupaten Belu. Variabel independen dalam penelitian ini adalah terpaan media televisi (X1) dan new media (X2), dan variabel dependen adalah partisipasi pemilih (Y). Teori-teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori stimulus – response sebagai grand theory, magic bullet theory sebagai middle theory, dan konsep partisipasi politik sebagai applied theory. Berdasarkan analisis regresi variabel X1 dan X2 memiliki pengaruh positif secara signifikan terhadap variabel Y sebesar 62,8%. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa terpaan media memiliki efek positif pada partisipasi politik di wilayah perbatasan Republik Indonesia - Republik Demokratik Timor Leste di Kabupaten Belu. Kata Kunci: pengaruh media, new media, partisipasi politik, pemilu umum.
